There is a lot of talk slope optimization, and slope compensation for slopes that Yarbo mows sub-optimally. About 25% of my 2 acres is not being mowed autonomously because of steep slopes. However the slopes can be mowed under manual control, and can also be mowed using deadends.
So I’m not looking for optimising the slope, I want Yarbo to automatically mow the slope. Even if it does a sub optimal job, that would be better than what I am getting now.
There should be two new options, both with gentle turns during the straight cut lines. UP/DOWN or SIDEWAYS. Playing with both of the option on your slope will give you the best cut, with an absolute minimum number of turns on the slopes. Note that the Yarbo does not turn at the end of the cut line, it backs up without turning. The user can choose core face uphill or downhill as well.

Another idea for steep slopes that have flat sections on their tops and bottoms, or on both of their sides.
Using the “Next” button when mapping creates a straight map line. Use that line to allow Yarbo to mow parallel lines UP and DOWN, or SIDEWAYS parallel to the line that the Next button drew. Of course allow nose up or nose down if mowing UP/DOWN.
In this mode, the turns would be executed top and bottom (flat areas) or side and side.
Call it the Pasture Mode!! Note that either method will work for my slopes!
Thanks,
Tim
Thank you for sharing your insight, Tim.
Your feedback highlights an important real-world use case. I’ve forwarded your post to our product team as part of the ongoing discussion around improving slope handling. Suggestions like yours are extremely helpful as we work to expand Yarbo’s capabilities in more challenging terrain.
We truly appreciate your input!
Thanks Yarbo!
I made a formal request because in looking over the other slope issues, it looked like most people were just having symmetry problems, not actual go or no-go mowing issues. Also I looked over the upcoming improvements (THANK YOU very much) and bug fixes and realized that my slope issues (only being able to mow manually or with 100’s of dead-ends,
was not really being addressed.
Thanks for looking at the issue, and I hope we can get a fix for this mowing season.

Wow, that’s some dedication with dead ends. Bravo!
Sounds like you’re looking for this, @offgrid, give its heart a tickle: Deadend Area: Automatically create and mow a series of parallel Deadends
Thought I had already done that 3 weeks ago when I left a detailed response agreeing with your idea (and showing how I manually make lots of dead ends)!. Turns out I did not know that the heart actually made a difference way back then!
Your idea would be a good work around for me, but Yarbo probably needs to get better at hills (mostly by not making mid-line turns) for it to be able to advertise being a great machine for slopes.
