New to Yarbo: Data center and Trees

Good afternoon. First, I want to say hi, and I am excited to join the community here. I just installed my data center on my roof, but I do have a lot of trees around me. I have had medium to low GPS coverage everywhere on my property, though at times it is solid.

Looking for feedback from people in similar situations. Does it not matter which way the unit is facing? I have a one-story ranch that sits on .5 acre, and the trees are twice as tall as the house. Looking stright up there is 120 degrees. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the community. Your DC and your core both need to have a clear view of the sky, the rover can go in and out of coverage, so that could be what you are seeing. If you go into the diagnostics, and click the yellow details and connect to the DC, what does your CNR scatterplot map look like? This will be what the DC sees vs what the rover sees.

Welcome to the Yarbo Forum! :waving_hand: We’re glad to have you here.

To answer your question, the direction the unit is facing does not have a significant impact on GPS signal quality, so orientation alone usually isn’t a concern.

If you’re seeing medium to low GPS coverage, here are a few helpful tips you can try:

Install the data center in the location on your roof with the clearest view of the sky.

Place the docking station in an area with stable, strong GPS signal. A good GPS signal near the docking station is especially important, because an automatic work plan needs reliable GPS to start. If the GPS signal at the docking station is not stable or strong enough, there may be issues starting a work plan.

Fine-tune the PPVS (Precise Positioning Vision System) settings based on your specific environment. You can refer to this article for guidance: Yarbo Lab & PPVS(Precise Positioning Vision System) | Yarbo Wiki

Hope this helps, and feel free to ask if you have any follow-up questions. Thanks for being part of the community!

Thank you. As an update, I installed it on the roof and got everything working, but I do worry about what will happen when the leaves come back. Come spring, I’ll look at what I can do to trim some back.

You are right to be concerned about that. In that screenshot you have 1 usable constellation and no others. 36 is the minimum. 40 is recommended. Reach out to support and see if they might be able to send you a higher gain antenna to help with that.

I had a simialr issue where the DC was not getting a good signal (wide open space). After “installing” the DC in different locations, I swapped the antenna on the DC with one from the Core. Bam! All green no issues. I read that suggestion on this forum, there was something about swapping the “Right side” antenna.

Not saying that will correct your issues, but it is an easy try.

That was probably my suggestion and yes, right side antenna as you face the rear of the core is the best one to swap with.

It was your suggestion and it was spot on.

If the antenna was just swapped and now it works how does that make sense? Wouldn’t the conclusion be a bad antenna?

Yes it means a bad or a not quite up to snuff antenna. The right side of the core isn’t primary, mostly used for direction. If the swap works, it proves bad antenna and Yarbo Support would replace it.

I will give that a go
