How much do trees block the setup for the data center. Can the datacenter still work if the blockage is mostly from trees, but the sky coverage is 150 instead of the 120?
One user told the story of having ONE BRANCH in the way. ONE. He removed that, and the Data Center worked far better. That story helped me understand how much trees can affect GPS, but, as everything, your results may vary.
If you can post pictures of the install location we can try and assess. It’s probably fine, but the more open, the better.
I have a clear view of the sky from our roof but what I think most talk about is the core dropping GPS mid job / in travel. I was concerned about this as well given what some people say. I took a couple of pictures of our yard - pretty much the 2 acres I have mapped looks like this and I have never lost the signal including 1800 feet at the end of our driveway. NOTE: I just got the unit a week ago and started out on the latest firmware before I started mapping in case that matters. On the GPS side we have at least 14 L2 and usually in the low to mid 20’s with another 28-30 total sat’s above us. For what its worth I am in central Wisconsin so I am not sure if our coverage is unusual or not. I will note that most of the satellites seem to be north of us.
Your satellite count sounds about right. The roof is probably fine. The trees for the core could cause some GPS pauses but overall I think this will be less of an issue when they release the updated dead reckoning firmware in a few weeks (hopefully)
@bryan.wheeler - I was not the person that asked the question, I was showing my installation in case that helped them or others. I do not have any GPS issues with the trees (at least for now anyways).
Ah thanks. That’s what I get for multitasking and not scrolling all the way up in the thread.
Thanks for sharing your pictures and experience. I think it does help people. They have something to compare with their lawns.
