Overheated Battery didn't start charging below 45

Ran the core for a job and when it went back to charge it said the battery temp was too high. When I looked it was at 51. When it was at 40 degrees it was still not charging and had dropped to 18%. When I clicked charge in the app it started charging. Shouldn’t this auto start charging when the temp drops below 45 or do I need to do this each time?

It should resume charging automatically when the battery temperature drops. I’d try restarting the rover. It wouldn’t hurt to open a support ticket anyway.

Thanks. Did both yesterday. Have not heard anything back from support.

Just got a response from Support, it is below. This can’t be right is it, it doesn’t automatically resume and they are working on that functionality?

Hi Mike,

Hope you’re doing well.

Sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. We’re actively working on enhancing the battery’s thermal management logic during the charging process. This includes improving temperature detection and adding functionality to allow Yarbo to automatically resume wireless charging once the temperature returns to a safe range.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to make these improvements.

Best regards,
John

Well. That’s news. Here’s Yarbo’s official response from June.

I got another response when I asked for conformation that it indeed does not automatically resume charge on overheat and when it would be addressed. I think what is happening is if the unit needs to recharge and still has work to do it will wait until its under 45 then start charging. If it is overheated and does not have remaining work automatic resume charge does not happen.

Dear Customer,

We are extremely sorry about the inconvenience. Our new update is scheduled to be released in the next couple of days, and this issue will be addressed for sure. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
Jerry

I can confirm that it will not automatically resume, but sometimes it can. Definitely will be addressed in the next update.

Which apparently is coming in the next couple days.. That’s welcome news.

Maybe, timelines are a bit overzealous at times.

I’m just surprised a timeline slipped out.

The response you received from support is correct. Currently, the system may not automatically resume charging once the battery temperature drops below 45°C. However, the auto-resume charging feature is planned to be included in the next update.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding!

Are these types of known issues listed someplace? Would be useful to check that to see if a problem you are having is already known and being corrected vs. raising a new issue. I did search this forum and didn’t see the issue, certainly the overheating issue but nothing on the automatic resume not working.

This has been a common ask. I think they are working on something but no ETA.

At the moment, we don’t have a public list of known issues available. However, we understand how helpful that could be and will keep the suggestion in mind.

As for the auto-resume feature after battery overheating, this functionality will be included in the next update. Thank you for bringing it up!

What’s the expected timeline for this upcoming next release? Thanks.

It’s not a major update but more of a hotfix. We’re currently testing it with our PPP users, and if no new issues come up, we plan to release it very soon.

I hope the PPP set includes users that are actually encountering the issue. There are plenty of us that would be happy to test it if asked.

@Yarbo-Forum - I don’t think we need a whole list, no. For anything being worked on by the Yarbo Engineering/Development Team (or things at top of mind), a “Top N” (Top 5? Top 10?) list for bugs and another “Top N” list for high priority features being worked would be fantastic.

I’ve also observed “Issue of The Week” going around in social media (power boards a few months ago, failure to charge on the Docking Station a month or two ago, more recently battery issues in the heat, now we’re seeing mower height issues) – having the recent issues on a list with status would communicate what Yarbo is on top of and following from The Community.

Maybe a document on the Forum or Wiki that’s updated once or twice a week with status or news?

You can join the PPP program here. If you didn’t already know that.
