Per-Area moving speed (M1)

Good afternoon!

For the M1, at present, there is a global “Moving Speed” parameter in the “Working Area Preference” of the app.

Pathways and Dead-Ends allow customization of this speed preference.

I’m hoping that customizing this speed preference can be made available to an area, as well.

The use-case for this feature is at least four-fold.

a) Areas cut less frequently will want to be cut at a lower speed
b) Areas cut more often can be cut at a higher speed
c) Very steep slopes want to be cut at a lower speed
d) Really soft ground wants to be cut at a lower speed (due to the nature of Yarbo hitting the brakes)

Thank you for considering.
Cheers!

Thank you for your suggestion and for providing such a detailed description of the potential use cases. We’ve shared your feedback with our product team, and we agree that this could be a very useful feature.

This would be a nice addition. Please consider moving to development

Brand new to Yarbo ownership/forum, so please forgive if I missed a post and this is already resolved

Another use case is mine, where different areas also have different thickness of Bermuda. Even with a diesel zero turn, thickened Bermuda takes a much slower ground speed, sharp blades, and higher blade revs- where several areas I could mow much faster. For our M1, same applies, but I have to go to slow mow (slo mo) for everything because of a couple areas, I’m sure costing battery and time to finish. BTW, we will be pushing the 6 acre limits when yard is completely mapped. This is day 1.25 of real mowing, so a lot still to learn.

I think with the current software options for Yarbo, you’ll likely want to map the thick areas separate from the thinner grass.

That way you can go faster on the thinner grass and slow down on the thick stuff.

Mowing speed is currently global in Working Preferences. You can change the mowing height per area, but not the speed.

Setting the speed per area has been requested several times. I Hope it gets added soon as well.

That’s a good point. Of note, if the mower is loaded, much like the snow blower it will automatically slow down.

Thanks all, I noticed our bot slowed some in spots. I am toying with the idea of splitting some of the larger areas due to heat too; but it would be nice to be able to customize them if I did.

Thanks for the recommendation, Ken
I will probably use the splitting approach so that I can better prioritize some spots over the 4-5 day work plan it looks to probably take to do 5-6 acres, with some thicker grass, and with the lovely heat we’re moving into. Its workday seems to get a little shorter too.

It does slow, but at that point the cut quality suffers significantly.

Yes indeed, hence use it only for microcutting as designed.

Mine isn’t exactly micro cutting these days. Went a week waiting on a replacement mower. More like hacking its way through the jungle.

But getting through indeed.

You had scissors available. No excuses! :joy:

but that takes effort and I’m inherently lazy. Hence why I bought a yard robot! :joy:

Sound familiar?

Hey don’t quote my laziness. I don’t like being confronted with it.

Kinda how it felt to me too…

We may need to start a support group.

I’m sure there is a 10 step program somewhere.

If there’s alcohol, count me in
