Pulley and belt cover

Started designing a pulley and belt cover for the snowblower. Thoughts?

I’d cover the whole back area personally. Wish it was like that from the factory.

I’ll look at that. Covering the motor’s might be difficult.

Great idea!

Keep in mind there are multiple hardware revisions in the wild so the dimensions may vary.

Good point

Couple thoughts;

  1. Excellent idea
  2. covering the entire back might require a design that can be printed in pieces and glued together
  3. the variability based on hardware revisions could be mitigated if you choose to share the raw CAD file(s). I often find it easier to modify something close than starting from scratch. I’ve adopted that approach with everything I post to printable, thingiverse, etc. I include the STL and the f3d file. I’ve adopted Fusion 360 because they offer a free non-commercial use license for hobbyist like me and it is incredibly capable.

Nice idea. Make it in clear/transparent materials so you can still see if you do not want to take the cover off

If you havent tried it check out Onshape. It’s also free and I find it easier to use and maintain. It’s web based so you don’t have to worry about managing updates and bug fixes. I used Fusion 360 for years and switched over a few years ago. Anything created with the free version is considered open source and source files are available to anyone with an OnShape account.

Great idea but transparent parts are difficult to print. Opaque is about as good as it gets with my printer. That should be good enough to see debris though. If you have debris, you have a problem.

Agree. Opaque good enough. Still better than not seeing anything

I too used Fusion 360 for a long time. Then they decided I couldn’t export my files in the formats I wanted locking my designs into their software. They eventually reversed that stance. But fool me once, shame on you. I didn’t give them the chance to do it a second time. I moved to Freecad. It too is quite capable. And is free and open source to boot.

I could never get my head around fusion,so I stuck with tinkercad. For what I need it works reasonably.

I watched several YouTube tutorials to get semi proficient at Fusion. Was loving it until they started with their shenanigans.

Then I went through several tutorials for freecad and am back to semi proficient.

I tinkered with tinkercad for a bit it does seem to work.

Well at least you followed the instructions. LOL

Instructions?? What are those??

Instructions are boring

Those are the things we look at when all else fails.

Yep. Break out the instructions as the very last resort. After spending the whole day determined to figure it out!

This is why we can’t have nice things… :joy:

But…we have superior problem solving skills
