In an alternate reality, this post would be about how I successfully used Tow Mode for the first time…. But we are in the Prime timeline, and that’s not the way it happened here.
Yesterday I had to get the zero turn out of the shed and do the first of a series of lawn applications. It was a nice day, and I didn’t want to wait any longer. So I ended up manually applying grub killer in my yard with the zero turn and the spreader.
Would have been the perfect opportunity to test out Tow Mode and watch it work while relaxing in a lawn chair. Unfortunately, Yarbo told me he doesn’t know how to drive in nice straight rows without backing up yet. He said that one day he hopes to learn that skill, but he’s not there yet.
Next up for me will be the fertilizer and weed preventing treatment. Maybe he will be ready to help me for that task. Fingers crossed.
Last year I made a long zig zag sidewalk along my front yard to try and tow my yard sprayer. Yarbo still wanted to do the back up thing at the turns. Ended up jackknifing the sprayer on the first trial run and breaking Yarbo’s hitch.
What is the latest/greatest best practice for Yarbo towing? I have a spreader, sprayer, aerator, 4-wheel cart. I have done Follow Me which is a pain but helps get your 10,000 steps in.
This is the latest I could find asking for tow mode. They may have removed this feature from future sales, but…some of us bought it when it was advertised. Limited as it maybe I think there should be some release of this. Although I agree that observation of the unit after using for 2 seasons this will be tough. I think in many cases Yarbo has gotten worse with its back and forth to make a turn. Maybe a suggestion that some more programming thought goes into smooth wide turns. The unit is capable, I can do it with the controller. Tow mode should likely be approached as one would do with a tractor mowing. That is in loops. When I mowed with a tractor I would make large 8ft (actually varies depending on the total sized mowed) turns, on the turns it would overlap of course, moving over a row at a time. This would not be good for a fertilizer (unless it could be turned off on the turn), but a lawn sweep, rake, thatcher, etc. it would be fine. Like many things I think putting it out there and letting feedback flow could help. Sorry just my 2 cents…
