The circular wheel on the trimmer that helps it to go around obstacles pins taller grass/weeds to the obstacle (walls, fence, etc.) and keeps the cutting line from getting close enough to cut them. Perhaps having shallow serrations on the wheel instead of solid round would be more effective. The taller grass/weeds would go into the serrated area allowing the trimmer line to reach and cut the grass.
I think this would cause the wheel to catch on things more.
