What's your "best practices" regarding placement of no-go zones for trees, posts, gaping holes, etc

I’m just curious what everyone’s thoughts are on the best way to locate no-go zones for trees using the circular templates. Do you just hold your thumb up and look at the app and say, “Close e’nuff”? Do you drive the rover right up against the tree and use the icon in the app? Do you use the side of the rover closest to one of the antennas? The front of the rover? The back? A corner? Does anyone one know about the accuracy of the size of the icon used to represent the rover in the mapping screen?

I would love to know everyone’s experience and thoughts on this as I prepare to go back out and add no-go zones to all of my favorite immovable objects and (literal) pitfalls. :rofl:

I manually drive Yarbo and use the “gentle touch” method to get right up on the tree. Then I guesstimate the size I want keeping it just barely large enough. Then before final placement I drive Yarbo to the other side of the tree and finish adjusting the placement and size.

I usually do North and South just because that’s how I roll.

Seems to work pretty well for me.

Draw the NGZ with the rover and then use a template to tweak it smaller or larger to suit your needs and clean up any weird edges. I generally don’t bother with them for larger objects like trees or telephone pedestals, etc. I either let it bump them or let moderate bypass go around them. Does really good either way. Smaller stuff and suspended stuff (or holes) yeah, NGZ that.

That’s a really good idea! I’ve been just ‘drawing’ the NGZ, cause that’s what I’m used to doing with my other smaller robots. But now that I finally had time to think about Brian’s suggestion, that seems like the ideal way to go.

Sounds like more map adjustments are in my near future!
