Yarbo Collision

My Yarbo took on an SUV and LOST!

I came home the other day and found

my daughter was visiting. Much to my surprise my Yarbo was wedged up under the SUV she drives, on the passenger side. First thing I will say is I so am glad I got home when I did. She was about to walk out and head home. She would not have approached from the side where the Yarbo was and most likely would not have seen it. A very loud and expensive crunching sound would have happened moments hence.

Now I would like to know why the cameras did not see and avoid the SUV. It was not blocking access to the charge pad, merely adjacent to the path. Do the cameras not function when it is moving along a path? Did I get a setting wrong somewhere? Why would it keep bumping the SUV until it was scarred up and had worn down some of the rubber on the tracks - which you can see in one photo if you look closely?

I live on a golf course with lots of opportunities to answer questions and hopefully drum up some sales. Now I am heistent to do so, especially with the scars on the mower unit. I’d appreciate anyone that might have some insight or suggestions for me.

Hi there,

We’re truly sorry to hear about the incident, and we completely understand your concern.

Currently, when Yarbo is moving along a pathway, it relies only on the bumper for obstacle detection. Before the recent hotfix, if the bumper made contact with an object on the pathway, Yarbo would try to reverse and adjust its angle several times in an attempt to bypass the obstacle. If all attempts failed, it would stop and send a notification through the app.

This may explain why Yarbo continued bumping into the SUV, causing damage. We sincerely apologize for the trouble this has caused.

After the hotfix, this behavior has been improved: when the bumpers are triggered on the pathway, Yarbo will now stop the work plan immediately, and a pop-up message will appear in the app to alert you.

We know that this doesn’t solve the root of such issues, and we will continue to work on improving Yarbo’s obstacle avoidance capabilities in future updates.

I have a pathway that starts with a turn but yarbo sees the bush that encroaches the edge and gives up completely with obstacle avoidance on. This path was created recently.

I have another path that is from months ago that seems not to care about repetitive bumps into a 3 gallon pot as it pushed it along 6 ft before the path turned away. Even got a Collison notification but kept trucking.

Scared of a bush but will push into an object on the path… I had hoped it would quit when it hit the pot so it would not worsen my yarbo spot in front of the charger.

I usually have to manually catch my autonomous mower to prevent zero turn damage @Yarbo-Forum claims they’ve been tracking on as a hot topic since mid May.

Say it with me, “the people don’t like zero turns when they have smart turn enabled… ”

Shocker I know.

You could place a no vision zone where the yarbo is when it sees the bush. Where is the pot in relation to Yarbo? Is it green or blending in with something else?

Base was not plugged(yarbo lost to the inflatable toddler pool/bubble machine …) so it made a mess of the mulch.

I’ll throw a brick in the path to double check safety tonight. The pot had decent weight but the soil in the outer pot was below where the bumper would press.

I’m thinking the pot just didn’t have enough mass to trigger the bumper or it hit on the corners.
