Zamboni Mowing Pattern

Just an idea…

When a Zamboni is clearing the ice, it can’t make tight turns so it uses the "Zamboni pattern. A couple of perimeter laps, then a line through the middle, curving back out to the edge. Next run shift over one width from the centre, and back to the edge. Nice easy turns.

I think this would work for mowing as well, and might reduce a lot of back-and-forth turns.

SO many people have asked for this. I have seen this probably half a dozen times at least on here, maybe more. Yes, they need this pattern, desperately.

…and not just for the mower. It’ll want it for all modules, including tow mode!

Yes!

It’s called…please don’t back up…please…

Thank you for sharing the idea. I can see there is strong interest from the community in this feature. I’ll pass the community’s feedback and continued interest in this pattern to our product team again for consideration.

Can we generalize this problem? I mean, there are a lot of requests for pattern variations. I think a better solution would be trying to open source the pattern code. Or maybe create a tool that end users can use to design pattern rules and show preview/simulations of the mower working on screen. Then this could produce some sort of output file that could be consumed by the rover/app to define a new pattern.

I’m a software developer tech nerd so, this solution seems logical. Not everyone would need to do it and not everyone would be able to do it, but those of us who are motivated and already possess tech skills could do it. Then we could have a crowd sourced library of pattern rules and people could choose to include the ones that work best for them in the app along with the current out of the box ones. You could add a “custom” pattern type and then we could select the pattern from a menu which would include all the patterns we have loaded into the app from a repo of rules. I don’t know, maybe its too much but I think it would be cool.

Open Platform is coming next year. Hopefully it lets us do things like this.

Yeah is there somewhere we can find API details yet? Because if it exposes enough that we can do stuff like this I would 100% develop a mac/windows app to do map management and pattern creation. I get a little annoyed working on my phone or tablet all the time.

These are the official ones.

This would be an amazing addition. And for all modules as Steve suggests
