Yarbo should try to follow pattern lines when moving between different points

When Yarbo first executes a mowing plan, it cuts along the perimeter of the area, as well as around no go zones, such as trees, then finally gets to the main area pattern. When Yarbo moves between these initial perimeter regions, it just determines the shortest path, cutting through the grass against the pattern. At least having the option to follow the pattern as much as possible would be great!

There was a change in Firmware 3.8.4 and the latest App regarding mowing perimeters around No-Go Zones. If you change that option and Preview the Work Plan, do the mowing pathways improve?

I agree, follow the perimeter and already cut lines to move around. Keep those lines beautiful, because it does make beautiful lines just to mess them up with all the back and forth.

It helps a bit to mow the perimeter first, but they definitely should improve this. I know they improved some things in firmware 3.8.4, but not sure how much.

Thank you for your suggestion! We understand your desire for a cleaner mowing pattern and have forwarded your feedback to our R&D department for consideration. We appreciate your input!

@bryan.wheeler @JayWozz 3.8.4 did improve this, but only because you can now turn off no-go zone perimeter cutting, which means Yarbo doesn’t move between no-go zones prior to cutting the area.

@Yarbo-Forum thank you for forwarding the info. Even after the firmware update, some lines do still cut through the main area. I would suggest pre-determined paths as well as mid-job paths should attempt to follow the cut pattern as much as possible. For example, if Yarbo needs to go back to charge mid-job, it shouldn’t cut through the area, but instead try to follow cut paths as much as possible to get back to the dock.

Thank you again for the fantastic improvements

Yeah, a toggle for not mowing around no-go zones isn’t an improvement to random lines crossing the yard; it’s just trading one problem for another.

Agreed - but I can deal with the lines for now as long as I’m not the one cutting!

Yarbo is definitely a huge time saver. First-world problems for sure. This is not so much of a complaint as it is a request for a fully-developed feature. Mowing line configuration is not a necessity to properly cut grass, so much of this is for aesthetic purposes. If we are talking aesthetics, then the feature is incomplete.

I will say, Yarbo seems to be introducing new features that are incomplete on a regular basis. I understand we are more like beta testers, adopting a new technology, but so many edge cases are missing or buggy, it’s hard to imagine a non-tech person buying this and easily able to use it. I’m having fun with it for sure, but I would never recommend this to my parents, for example. It doesn’t “just work.”

Compare, for example, to something like a Roborock mop/vac for inside the house. We recently puchased a mid-tier model and we were blown away at how well developed the software is. It very much “just works” in 95% of the use cases it encounters.

I’m delighted to see Yarbo constantly improving their software, because that is where this product lacks right now. The hardware is there for sure. They are biting off a huge challenge with the features they are trying to pack into this thing. Judging by their updates so far (I’ve had mine for about 6 months), I’m confident they will make this an “it just works” product.

Yarbo, again, not cutting anyone down on the development team, you all are doing great work. Keep it up! (and try to ship more fully-developed features if you can).

I just started using the lawn mower for the season, so I’m kind of late to this post. I totally agree with the OP that Yarbo should try to follow pattern lines when moving between different points. I have nearly 30,000 sq.ft of lawn and the random zigzag lines are clearly visible after a few rounds of mowing. I believe that the dev. team is trying to balance the consumption of battery and the completion of the job, so obviously this was an optimization strategy. Hopefully, this can be improved on the next firmware update. I am totally blown away by the stunning diamond look of my lawn so far. Thank you!

It would be nice if the blades didn’t spin while it drives across parts of the lawn that have already been cut.

I don’t think they do? I don’t mind if they do. It’s already messing up the aesthetics, might as well cut any stragglers along the way.

Oops I guess I made an assumption :person_shrugging:
