This is something I posted on Discord, and it was recommended by Marco I add it here.
One big problem I have with GPS is a tree canopy. When mowing in the summer when all the leaves are out I have serious problems with mowing. I have had to break apart my front year into smaller sections so it can mow and not make me want to drive it out into the street to die. (dramatic flare).
It would be nice if I could apply an overlay to add no go zones to an area that isn’t permeant. Like I want you to start this plan, but also add this overlay that includes some areas for your no go zone. My initial thought is that I would even like to just be able to draw on the map/area with my finger and cover an area in red to create a temp zone, but I think overlays could be a really nice feature and re-useable.
Like when I’m mowing in summer I want overlay X, but when it comes time to blow leaves I don’t want that overlay. It might be nice to auto select an overlay based on the module attached, but I don’t need to dismiss a section of my yard until the leaves are thick. This could really help cut down at least my frustration with the mowing module for my yard.
Someone asked if just enable and disable NGZ’s in the app would help. My response was:
are gone again and I can re-map the area I need to add back I removed a big corner so it would mow most of the yard. Just thinking about user experience as well. If I have to go in and edit the map to enable and disable, that can be a pain. The app asking if I want an overlay or group Leaf Canopy enabled when starting would be a better flow in my opinion.
Hi. I think your suggestion goes well with our request to be able to customize better the work plan so we can activate/de activate pathways, NGZ, customize cutting height, speed, etc, within a work plan.
So for example for a same area you could have several work plans with various activated or not NGZ, pathways, different speed, etc…
We hope this will be implemented some day. And it could do exactly what you want I believe…
Thanks for sharing your idea and providing such detailed scenarios. If more users show interest in this feature, I’ll make sure to forward it to our product team for consideration.
Yes we do. The way I’m “hacking it” right now is I draw several areas on top of each other. Each area has it’s own area settings (can’t control speed but I can control grass lenght and pattern) and they have their own work plan…
The BIG drawback of this is it takes forever to compute work plan and sometimes recharge fails if it needs to recharge while on the border of two zones that don’t overlap perfectly…
Did not but this tip in the grass maintenance thread as this is very buggy. It works for me but it adds a lot of edge cases and bugs (worse pathway management, longer compute time for work plans and they sometimes fail, etc). But I know it is because of the several overlapping areas…
Good idea. I have some low lying areas on my property that can get waterlogged when we get lots of rain. Currently those areas are not included in the main work area zones. I created separate inclusion zones for those areas which is sort of a kludge. I’d rather circle those low lying areas on the map and make temporary no go zones when needed.
