Just opened the app to check on my mowing progress, and have the overheating symbol. Checked and it is at 52. Do I need to stop using it and let it cool down?
Or is the heat only for charging?
It won’t charge at that temp, but you should be able to mow.
I had the same problem. I had to pull the battery bring it into the house and place it on the AC vent for a few minutes. I got tired of that real quick. So now I mow at night when it’s cooler and let it charge in the morning hours. Haven’t had anymore problems from it. I also built a sun shade for it out of 1" PVC pipe I had laying around and shade cloth. Seem to work ok. It’s not baking in the sun and it doesn’t interfere with the GPS signal in any way.
Was the mower still working at 52C? I have in the Wiki that the rover will stop doing work at >50C, which makes sense from a BMS perspective (the BMS controls charging and discharging, and it doesn’t want to be over temperature).
The other thing that could be happening: I learned at the Product Pioneer meeting that what you see on the screen on the Diagnostics page may not be what the BMS uses. For example, the Diagnostics screen could be showing one cell where the BMS uses an average – or something like that, we don’t know, but you get the idea. That would explain why people have reported charging > 50C (and maybe operating over 50C like you are seeing) or resuming charging when slightly over 45C. (It is my understanding that Yarbo is going to fix this and make the Diags and BMS consistent.)
I have seen mine mowing while the diagnostics shows the battery temp over 50.
There are six sensors inside the battery that the BMS monitors but only one is exposed to the diagnostics. Yes, I believe Ken K stated the battery is fine up to 60. I’ve not seen an issue with mine operating at higher than 50 but I only ever see it this high when it’s charging. Operating I’ve never seen it over 43 in 98F degree sun
Same thing for me yesterday. Had the alarm up on the screen @53C. Mowed all the way up to the 20% battery level. Never came back to the charger. I walked him back up. Put him on the charging pad. Wouldn’t charge do to the alignment false alarm it gives when the battery is too hot. He cooled down then he went to charging. Now if we could get this week old GPS bouncing all over. Latency won’t stay stable, so all those delays still. @yarbo-forum
