with a little bit of modification that could be made to protect the antennas ![]()
time to get a 3d printer here!
My solution was a piece of thermal engine tape. It’s the kind that you wrap around an engine part to keep the heat from a turbo or exhaust from melting something else. About $10 from Amazon, if I remember correctly.
It is a metal weave with sticky on the back. The metal helps reflect the radiant heat. I removed the cover and applied the tape to the top and bottom, leaving the sides open for ventilation. The rain will roll off the sides onto the ground.
I took the cover off and applied it, and the mower started charging. I will keep monitoring it moving forward.
I have not tried them, but these are already made.
decision time - 1500 for a 3d printer or 1100 for a spare battery
Option C, both
Agreed. This is the way.
I got a nice Flashforge 5M for around $500, and printed two different models of antenna protector that are available. And of course you can print lots of other useful things.
The first one in orange worked well, especially since due to an error on my part, I hit a heavy horizontal board and Yarbo was literally carrying it around. But in the end I liked the flexible idea better. I don’t think there’s a way for the antenna to totally break, because there’s enough give in the cable. They will either snap back or if the yellow part breaks I could need to print just that part again.
i like those yellow ones, pretty nice!
I agree. I haven’t spent one minute on a lawnmower this summer either. Yarbo is a relatively new concept and fits my needs perfectly. Getting old sucks! That’s why I got yarbo. He handles the big stuff and I take care of the rest. I even have one of those Chinese remote control lawnmowers for the two hundred yards of ditch bank I have to keep mowed. I don’t mind helping the company work through some of the problems with their product. I’m a problem solver by nature, so this is right up my alley. Besides, since I got my yarbo I’ve met neighbors I didn’t know I even had. Yarbo gets a lot of attention. Even with the problems we are all having with our yarbos it’s still a great product and I’m very excited to see what kind of improvements are coming in the future. I love my yarbo and he’s part of the family now.
To me, if you’re an early adopter, tech geek, or guy who just loves to tinker with gadgets, Yarbo is right up your alley!
I’m pretty much all of the above, so for me it’s a fun journey.
Yarbo officially says its “trickle charging the battery”! That is a really good way to destroy a perfectly good lithium battery.
