Bug in Perimeter Blowing Algorithm- Misses clearing center due to nozzle offset to side

@Yarbo-Forum

I have a long driveway that I use the Yarbo blower to clear using “Perimeter” option.

It starts from the center and blows leaves outside the perimeter all along the driveway. It works well, but leaves behind a center “mohawk” strip of unblown leaves. The reason is that the blower starts from the center line and blows leaves to the outside of the perimeter/driveway, which is correct.

BUT, the blower nozzle is offset to the right, in both directions, the right side offset nozzle creates a missed path right down the center, half of the center strip in one direction, the other half from opposite direction.

The solution to fix this is to create an overlap at the start/center of the perimeter to adjust the offset blower nozzle. To be precise, when the rover is blowing in either direction along the center line of the perimeter for the initial first pass, it needs to offset itself to the left of center line by exactly the width of of the blower.

Agreed. Very frustrating.

It does similar things when using paralell mode, where the left side is not cleared even if that side is also a target (i.e. blowing leafs to either side of the driveway).

Bigger issue, related: Is the inefficiency of only having 12’ spacing between runs. The leaf blower can easily blow 3-4 feet – we are not mowing lawn or running a snow blower. The width of the airstream means we should be able to make LESS passes and not run out of battery power so quickly.

An inefficient work-around would be if the app allowed the second pass “work twice” go parallel while the first does spiral (or reversed). That way, even with the utter inefficient blowing, it would clear the long driveway cleanly.

Hahaha. Great minds think alike…
That was exactly what I tried after getting the unintentional “mohawk” strip on my driveway, but yeah, the app does not allow the 2nd pass to be a different blowing algorithm.

I would even be happy if they allowed memory paths like the trimmer module. Then I could just drive down the center of driveway offset 2 mower widths or whatever and have that run before the sprial.

So, @Yarbo:

  1. Can you fix the routing for spiral and parallel to not skip areas because the leaf blower blows to the right?
  2. Can you add additional spacing since it can easily do a 48" path each pass, it does not need to drive over every inch and it is running out of battery way too soon for light leaf loads.
  3. Can you add memory paths to the leaf blower module?

I wish the blower nozzle was articulating like the original concept was. Would be far more efficient for driveways, sidewalks, and patios. They could easily make an attachment that diffuses the exhaust out multiple directions (left, center, right). Or something to that effect.

And rear-mounted so it could do cleanup with the mower module on.

Oh how I’ve been waiting for this to become a reality.

To me, the leaf blower is useless for sidewalks the way it is now. Unless I want to drive over the lawn or in the garden to blow.

Exactly, and it was one of the reasons I bought the leaf blower so that I could blow off the driveway, sidewalks, and patio autonomously.

Thanks for your feedback. I’ve passed your feedback to our product team

I’ve also received your feedback and suggestions. I’m sorry I can’t provide a definite answer at this time, but I’ll share them with our product team for consideration.

I also have a long and steep driveway as much as I enjoy the blower it only blows to one side of the mapped area. So I have one side completely clear and the other has a line a leaves along the edge. I do use reverse blowing however it would be great to clear both sides completely.

Sounds like a printer project for someone!

Thanks for sharing your feedback! I’ll pass it along to our team for review.
