So… With this new ‘Dead Reckoning’ update are we able to park Yarbo under any type of covered area yet? (Deck, Patio, Awning). I’m considering placing my charging station under a clear plastic window awning. The Data Center is directly above this very awning.
I mean, call me crazy, but for the price I paid for Yarbo I hate seeing it just sit outside with little to no coverage. I know, I know, it has been said Yarbo is weather rated and equipped to be outside… blah, blah.
Anybody else come up with a way to keep your Yarbo covered –with little to no issues?
What is that mat under the charging pad? Any links for reference? I like that awning idea, I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to do to try and keep it covered with gps transparent material.
It generally won’t help because you need an RTK status of 4 to start an auto plan when docked. If your cover allows for that, even with poor HDOP it could possibly help in that scenario.
However, I’ve only given it two test runs. It docked successfully each time.
Yet, it does show a brief spotty GPS signal since I installed the awning. (SIDENOTE: I actually posted this nearly 48 hours ago, in hopes I’d get some feedback before I installed the awning. Apparently, you have to send a message after a day or two inquiring how long does it take for a pending post –smh). When I first open the app, GPS says ‘Strong’ at first for a few seconds. Then ‘Disconnected’ for a few seconds. And then back to Strong again, where it stays thereafter. The signal seems to stay Strong, yet only after a brief “Hiccup!”
How do I acknowledge whether my RTK is achieving a status of 4, Mr. bryan.wheeler? Is it displayed in the app? My apologies if this seems like a foolish question –still learning!
I mean, come on. It is clear plastic and only feet away from the Data Station. I sure hope it works. I guess time will tell…
The matt seen in the photo works fairly well, so far. It’s a type of soft rubberized material. It was discarded from a local manufacturing facility in my hometown. I snatched a piece and took it home. While waiting (*patiently) for my Yarbo Pro Bundle that was ordered on July 20th, I got wise to a lot of people’s comments in regards to Yarbo steady massacring people’s lawn near the docking station. A True Story –I’m certain most of us can relate!
As for the actual awning itself… The bitch of it is, it is labeled as a window awning so it only extends out 37 and a half inches. Which, sadly, only gives coverage to the Yarbo Core (including Docking Station). However, I’m okay with that. Yes, it’d be nice to cover the attached module as well, but I have yet to find an awning with a longer length. SIDENOTE: It would also be nice to have an actual Module (Pro Version) that I could attach. Have I mentioned that I am (reluctantly) waiting patiently for my Pro Module? –July 20th, 2025
The easiest way to see it is you will have a green GPS icon on the main page. The more detailed view is to go into settings and diagnose tools. It’s under the RTK section. RTK status of 4 is what you want to see for Yarbo to operate properly with cm level accuracy. You generally shouldn’t have a problem docking. It will be when you go to start the plan when the rover has been idle, it may take a while to acquire a good GPS signal. You may have to periodically drive it off the dock if it doesn’t get one quickly.
Hi there, and sorry for the delay in getting your post approved. Regarding your question, as Bryan mentioned, Dead Reckoning helps with poor GPS signals during a work plan, but without a solid RTK fix, Yarbo still won’t be able to start a plan.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask!
