Data center - connect through WiFi / Halow

Allow for data center app connection through WiFi / Halow instead of BT only. My data center is on my roof and out of BT range unless I go up into my attic.

Hi there, thank you for sharing your suggestion. We’ve discussed this option with our product team in the past, but due to limitations with the data center, we’re unfortunately not able to support WiFi or Halow connections at this time. We really appreciate your input and thank you again for taking the time to share your idea.

Okay @Yarbo-Forum, well, if Wi-Fi or Halo is out, why not support connecting over direct Ethernet since it’s already wired up to a network? If you have the DC connected to your home’s network, I don’t see why there should be any problem connecting over your home network’s Wi-Fi through the Ethernet cable.

Right? I drilled through framing and siding to hardwire the mounted DC to a new POE switch in my attic loft, climbed a ladder up on the roof about 6-8 times, but can’t connect to it over Ethernet. :man_shrugging:

Also, I’m looking to get a smaller mount as I fear the winter winds on the standard pole and extension. I need to know the hole dimensions/locations and thread pitch.

I don’t understand why the poles don’t have the same hole patterns along with the T. The T should just be able to be inserted and screwed into the mounting plate.

I printed one of these and will be mounting it soon.

Wow, what a great find! I’ll look into printing this. Another option I looked at is using the existing mount but modifying an antenna pole to match. Something like Amazon.com: Pole Mount, Antennas Mount,Easy Installation Pole for Outside Home Antenna Installation. Hide and Protect Cable of Equipment. (White, 11.8 in) : Electronics.

Specs I got from support: ā€œData Center pole diameter, the pole diameter is 3.5 cm, and the T-joint diameter is 3.048 cmā€. But I couldn’t get the hole pattern or thread size from them.

Some other relevant diagrams while we’re at it…

I like that one. Looks clean.

Those are just snippets from official Yarbo manual.

Hey! Thats my model. Appreciate the share! I didn’t want the long pole either and when mounted like pictured, it has very clear view of the sky. TBH, I expect the only reason the factory mount doesn’t do something similar is because the mount they provided is a bit more ā€˜universal’

  • side note: I added holes for the spring button and the safety/security screw. the button + friction was more than enough and didn’t feel the need to add the screw too, so if it isn’t perfectly aligned, its because i never used it

Out of curiosity, what are yall connecting to the DC for? I think the only time I do is on accident when browsing settings on the mobile app.

Only to check for updates (hasn’t been one in a long time) or to check for CNR levels.

Our data center doesn’t support connecting to the app through Ethernet or other methods. This is due to hardware limitations

Yes thanks for sharing this. We’re going to modify some as we have to put the DC higher up based on where I put the mount and don’t want to drill new holes.

Hi Yarbo,

Hardware limitations… Sooo either you chose a horribly under performing processor to run the DC, or you’re BS’ing. You already have a full internet connection on the ethernet jack and you’re already pulling pushing data from the internet, so please explain how there’s a HARDWARE limitation that would be preventing you from making a connection to your app, on a cell phone, connected to the internet. I could see there being a firmware/software limitation for, say, security or that the time to invest might be too much (for now), but a hardware limit makes no sense unless the DC has been VERY poorly designed…

Try turning your Bluetooth antenna so it’s pointing down instead of up. I have about 100 feet of Bluetooth range that way. Didn’t think Bluetooth could go that far but mine does.

Hi. I can SSH the data center.. (I don’t have the password so I can’t login but I can ping it and SSH…)…

so… there must be a way to connect to it. Do you mean Ā« software Ā» limitation? That I would understand (no UI for us, the clients).

Because when you connect to our system to troubleshoot, you have to go through the data center…
