I just had to replace the core and the DC, the process for which seemed very tedious and archaic.
Currently the data center provisioning requires scanning a barcode. While that can be easily done when setting up a new Yarbo without the DC mounted, it is very labor intensive for someone who has the DC mounted high on the roof and is trying to replace it with a new one.
- Yarbo should allow auto discovery of ethernet connected DC in the app, so that barcode scanning isn’t needed.
- A provisioned DC cannot be accessed via the app without bluetooth and requires close proximity. The DC is an IoT device that is always connected to the internet and should allow app based configuration over internet, without requiring bluetooth connectivity. This is crucial for remote monitoring/config.

The data center is paired at the factory. If your replacement data center came with the core the was nothing more other than the standard install process that needed to be done.
If your replacement core did not come with a replacement data center, the install process automatically handles the pairing process with your existing DC.
The QR code is only required if the automated process doesn’t work. Additionally, “Replace Data Center” and “Reinstall Data Center” in the app handle this pairing process for you.
Right now Bluetooth is required for this. It’s kind of a security feature to ensure you have physical access by close proximity.

Right, but expecting customers to have physical access to the DC after initial installation, is asking for too much. Many customers mount the DC high up on the roof and accessing it for replacement or barcode isn’t practical.
My suggestion is to automate the process in the app, so that the above isn’t needed -
- Auto discovery of the connected DC and pairing it with the new core.
- Configuration of the DC over internet rather than forcing the user to climb a tall ladder and using bluetooth to connect to it.
The Bluetooth range should work from the ground or inside the house. The automated provisioning in the app already works. You don’t have to swap the data center out unless it’s broken. You can use the old one and just go through the install setup process in the app to pair it.
So, I think most of what you are asking for is already in place. I think the replacement core process should be documented to make this more clear.
It doesn’t for me, unless I am within 10ft from the DC, which means I have to be on a ladder 20ft above the ground.
Gotcha. This isn’t normal. I can connect to my data center(s) from the other side of my house. Have you spoke with support about this?
I have not. I understand that bluetooth range is limited by several factors, including the device and thus my request for enhancement. Since the DC is always connected to the internet (provisioned or not), I would expect all config to happen over IP instead of BT.
If the phone is connected to the same network/VLAN (in most cases it will be), then discovering a local network device is easy for the app to facilitate IP based provisioning and configuration.
