I already have a Yarbo for my main residence and I’m thinking of buying more for my apartment buildings and other properties. Is it possible to have a completely autonomous solution, like a data center powered by solar energy and not connected to the internet, with the docking station also powered by solar energy?
It’s possible but to control the core remotely, receive support, firmware updates, open the app, etc you will need internet. You can use the built in cellular on the core for that however.
And the Data Center?
The DC just needs power from the POE injector (or a POE switch). It doesn’t need internet. It will work in what they call “local HaLow” mode. You control the core directly through bluetooth or over cellular (or WiFi if you have it available, but I’m assuming you won’t). However, SmartVision doesn’t work over cellular, so that is a current limitation for this configuration. I hope one day, they allow that. Especially if you install your own SIM and Data Plan.
Can Yarbo core provide a network to the Data Center?
It cannot, but you could get a cellular router and connect the DC to that and provide internet to both.
How far away are your other properties? Less than 6 miles?
Yes ! 4.3 km from my main house.
Ok, then you could stage your DC’s at your home where you have a clear view of the sky and internet access. Your core would still need to use Cellular in this configuration though and it would use a lot more cellular data since the NTRIP would be going directly over the internet instead of local HaLow. And yes, you would need a DC per rover, as that is the current best recommendation. But, honestly, if you had them local to the properties without internet to the DC, I think it would work just fine (as long as the core has a good cellular connection).
