Extended warranty?

@JNS We really appreciate your continued support and understanding.

Since the warranty is administered by AIG, a global insurance provider, the coverage cost can’t be offered for free, but it’s designed to provide reliable, long-term protection for your Yarbo.

I think the point is that the manufacturer’s warranty period should not start until a fully functional product has been delivered. If a customer has had 2-years of trouble-free ownership, then a $599 extended warranty seems reasonable. But if those 2 years were waiting for spare parts, fixes, and returns, then it would seem reasonable to extend the manufacturer’s warranty.

I have had 4 core units replaced, new antennas plus many other various parts sent to me for free. Sure I have had to pay couple of times some small import dutie taxes but that’s just couple of euros each time. Maximum 10 euros, not more.

So taking this to account I do understand the logic by Yarbo. I would do exactly the same. Its not reliable business model to be hauling big heavy parts across Europe/US/China for free. Would I as a customer expect to have been sold a reliable working horse. Yes, for sure. But I do totally understand that to keep the company afloat and functional they had to do thi. What’s very surprising that they do have finally found a big well known reliable insuring company who are willing to take over the cost part. Hopefully the Yarbo’s advertising department wasn’t the ones who where responsible making that deal…

In my case the 599 dollars for the extension is cheap if I do expect the product Yarbo has sold to me will keep braking up in close to the same rate as it has done so far. And I do expect that the 2024 model I currently have will be replaced. Hopefully not anytime soon. Hopefully not but having owned 4 units already I do see a pattern here. For sure I do expect Yarbo to work without issues but let’s be realistic here. 599 dollars is cheap warranty option for this certain Yarbo’s 2024 model.

I have sent questions to Yarbo regarding this warranty extension offer. There are some important things what Information is missing from the offer they have made. I will post my questions and Yarbo’s official answers here once I have received the answer from them.

For sure it is cheap piece of mind for your investment. It’s not often a company finds a way to retroactively offer an extended warranty. I thank Yarbo for their efforts to work with their insurance provider to offer this. I look forward to your questions and their response.

Max payout $5k. That’s probably about 5 ground shipments. (2.5 round trips).

That’s not much room for parts and labor.

It’s nice they have offered something.

Anyone cracked open the mower? Does it look to be serviceable by the end user?

Do we know the price of parts (circuit boards)?

Anyone seen a parts breakdown?

So many questions…

Hi @ken.w.gregory Thanks for the thoughtful questions — we completely understand your curiosity.

Detailed coverage breakdowns and claim calculation examples will be released in the near future, and we appreciate your patience while we finalize those updates.

Original warranty should start after successful completion of Plan 5 times in the line (not after unit started up first time).
Currently I do not have single successful Plan because of bugs officially confirmed by Yarbo, but my warranty is ticking, this looks dishonest.
After this will be implemented we can have honest conversation about extended warranty. Extended warranty for not fully operational product doesn’t make sense.

This was kind of my thought process as well.

I agree it’s nice they offer something, but at this point it is unclear what the offer really is. It looks like the extended warranty is an add-on to new buyers too. Their main page says “Free extended Yarbocare or $699 off”, so for all intents, a new or old buyer has to pay roughly 10% for extended coverage, which is fairly reasonable.

Though without knowing what exactly is covered, or as you said, how many trips back and forth, with a $5K cap, it’s probably not for me. I would be more likely to spend that $599 on an updated pro core than continue to deal with a system that has racked up $5K in repairs.

In other words, if the system racks up $5K in repairs, I would be more likely to upgrade to a newly designed core. And if I didn’t rack up that many repairs over 5 years, then I would be happy to keep the core I have.

Because it’s basically a third party insurance provider, I could see it being a “here’s a check for a new core” and it would be the current shipping model. Alternatively one could opt for just doing repairs. But they could use the founders care credit for those repairs as well.

I’m not thrilled it’s a third party but it’s a win win in my eyes for both Yarbo and Yarbo’s customers. But, I agree, we definitely need some more information. Which they have said is coming. Thankfully, most 24 owners still have over a year before they even have to worry about the factory warranty expiring.

Is there no extended warranty for European customers who bought it in their country?

@Gabriele Hi there,

Thank you for your question. The current 3-year extended warranty plan is managed by our authorized service partner, XCotton. According to the policy, this warranty can only be purchased for products that were originally ordered through the Yarbo official website.

We’re very sorry that, at the moment, this option isn’t available for purchases made through other sales channels. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and truly appreciate your understanding.

I asked lots of specific questions. I did got a reply but not really to my questions. But I think I will buy the insurance as it is in my view a cheap option for the product what I have had so many problems with.

Yarbo’s reply:

Thank you for your patience. I wanted to provide a brief update regarding repair services and the extended warranty.

Repair Services:

  • Yarbo provides repair services in your region with costs covered by XCotton.

  • If only parts need to be replaced, XCotton covers those parts.

  • If a full component replacement is required, XCotton covers up to USD $5,000.

  • If repair isn’t possible, Yarbo can offer a replacement-for-repair option.

  • Once the standard warranty ends, the extended warranty activates automatically.

Extended Warranty:
Our new 3-year Extended Protection Plan (AIG-backed via XCotton) was introduced to give users long-term coverage. It’s optional and extends total protection to 5 years for manufacturing and performance issues.

Unfortunately, 2023 model owners are not eligible under XCotton’s current policy. However, if you’ve upgraded to the 2024 model, you can purchase the extended warranty immediately. Regular after-sales support remains available for all users.

Exactly where my mind went. What does Yarbo charge AIG for a core swap and other services. Without that data it’s difficult to calculate the value.

Remember what we’re buying is really just insurance. AIG/XCotton is betting on this being profitable or they wouldn’t do it.

Thanks to Yarbo for offering the extended warranty option. However, I don’t think @yarbo understood the concerns I have:

Case 1: I buy a Yarbo with extended warranty → Something breaks → Yarbo says it’s a warranty case and sends me a spare part → Now I have the spare part but need detailed instructions on how to replace it!

Case 2: I buy a Yarbo with extended warranty → Something breaks → Yarbo says it’s a warranty case and I have to send it back to Yarbo → This is very cost-intensive because I’m in Europe → The additional warranty coverage of $5k is too limited for this. And the downtime is too high.

Case 3: I buy a Yarbo with extended warranty → Something breaks → Yarbo says it’s a warranty case and a service technician repairs it → I don’t know if there’s a service network in Europe?

Case 4: I buy a Yarbo → Something breaks → Yarbo says it’s NOT a warranty case → I want to repair the device myself to save costs → Now I need the spare part from Yarbo with instructions.

This is the main question for me: “Does it look to be serviceable by the end user?” as @ken.w.gregory said. If Yarbo guarantees to provide spare parts (and the parts should be availabe in online store) with instructions (perhaps as download) on how to replace them, the problem would be solved.

At this price point (over €5,000 for the core unit alone), @Yarbo needs a right-to-repair-friendly approach for the European market to mitigate customer risks. A right-to-repair approach opens the European professional market while ensuring EU regulatory compliance and removing a major purchase barrier for high-value customers.

@dominik.prudlo Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your detailed concerns — they are completely valid and we really appreciate you taking the time to explain all the possible scenarios.

I want to clarify that in our current after-sales process, we do already provide official repair guidance when the repair is relatively simple and safe for users to complete on their own. For repairs that are more complex or where there is a higher risk of accidental damage during the process, we usually provide a replacement module or even a replacement core unit to make the experience more convenient and safer for users.

Your points about right-to-repair and the challenges for European customers are very important, and I will share this feedback directly with our team. We definitely agree that Yarbo should continue improving in this direction, and user repairability is something we want to support better going forward.

Thank you again for raising these concerns — they really help us improve. If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please feel free to share.

How does an “authorized dealer” repair fit in the extended warranty coverage?
or are they trained to make repairs?

@w.borhauer Hi there, we do plan to train certain authorized dealers to perform repairs. While we don’t have specific details to share at the moment, we’ll keep you updated once everything is ready.

Thanks for the question!
