Feature to "walk the yard" to find and report on debris autonomously prior to mowing

Prior to sending Yarbo out or running any kind of lawn tool, you typically walk the yard to look for debris (sticks, rocks, trash, toys, passed out neighbor, whatever). You’ll clear that debris before doing your yard work so you’re safe and the tools don’t get damaged.

Yarbo already has vision to detect what it doesn’t want to mow. Why not have a “Walk the Yard” feature to do a quick autonomous “walk” of mapped locations you’ll be mowing and report on what it thinks could be risky debris on the ground? Maybe ignore taller items like bushes/trees that are always there, just note stuff on the ground that could get stuck in the blades. Yarbo could possibly send a picture back in a Notification or compile a report.
You’ll know what you need to clear from your yard based on what Yarbo sends back to you.

You could almost do this as a function on a Work Plan – you have Start and Preview, add Walk the Work Plan and Report on Debris, Walk the Work Plan and Start Mowing if no Debris Found.

For the ultimate in “I really don’t want to go outside, I just want Yarbo to take care of my lawn.”

I like the idea. Just not sure from a speed perspective on large yards how useful this could be. Would basically have to run the pattern and then report, wait for acknowledgment, and then run the mow. Seems very long and slow.

Meanwhile, if the unit has the ability to recognize this stuff, then just do that during the job.

I want this feature but only for @Ken … The Yarbo when it’s working and it recognizes the stuff, it announces “Debris detected. Ken Leonard come outside and pick it up!”. This should be followed by text messages, emails, and push notifications every 2 seconds until Ken takes action! :joy: BTW, Ken should only be the one notified for all Yarbo’s.

Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion! We understand how helpful a “Walk the Yard” feature could be. However, it would present some challenges for our vision system, and at this time, it’s not something we are planning to implement. That said, we always appreciate feedback and will keep it in mind for future developments. Thanks again for sharing your idea!

@Yarbo-Forum Yarbo is sold on and even operates today to some extent with vision capability that distinguishes objects in the environment. The mower already sees things and moves around them. The suggested feature would use existing vision capabilities, filtering things a little different perhaps, and doing a different action. To say that vision would be a challenge to one of these features and not the other is a bit confusing and seems inconsistent.

Not looking for a response here. I know my feature suggestion isn’t anywhere near a priority nor a selling point, but Yarbo would like our ideas, and this one seems it would be based on today’s capability and ties in with mowing, which is why I suggested it. Kinda like Patrol Mode for the Mower. Sometimes ideas that are a bit out there when refined a little can lead to great features. Sometimes it’s “more junk in the trunk.” Sometimes it’s “WTH are you thinking!?!?!”

Heh, I always got a kick out of what I called “Beer-Toast Bugs” (or feature requests) when my QA people logged them – suggestions that want the product to do things way outside the scope – “It makes beer! It makes toast!” LOL!

I spent far too much time in Software and Product Development. You can retire any time you like, but you can never quit. Someone help me.
