Obstacle Avoidance Is useless

With the insanely bad customer support experiences I have had I have no desire to talk to them.

But since obstacle avoidance was enabled for pathways.. Yarbo is now Stopping because there is a weed growing on the pathway that it has decided is an obstacle.

My Options are:

  1. Disable the obstacle avoidance on pathways and wait until there is an actual obstacle that is too high for bump detection but low enough to break off the antennas.

  2. Even more babysitting of yarbo so that its able to work.

As it is I have vision turned off for it to be able to mow the lawn instead of avoiding every weed leaving uncut spots all over.

Its is a snowblower that had a mower strapped on the front of it. It is far from being able to be used in a unsupervised fashion. At the current rate of “feature development” It will be years before the features touted in the marketing material are even implemented let alone work with any level of reliability.

I am at the point where I am pretty much done with the lawn mower.. Its easier and faster for me to mow the lawn myself than the hours I have to invest in babysitting the mower each time it goes out to mow the lawn.

Hi there,

We completely understand your frustration with the obstacle detection issue. Please rest assured that we are actively working on optimizing this feature. Right now, our team is training the visual segmentation model with a much larger dataset of typical yard scenes. This will improve Yarbo’s ability to correctly identify obstacles and reduce false detections.

We expect to release this improved version in the next update, and we hope it will help reduce these false stops and make mowing more reliable for you.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve.

When will yarbo be feature complete as advertised in the marketing material? what is the estimated date on that? 2027? 2030?

If it is faster to mow it yourself than let Yarbo do it because of obstacles, it is certainly possible that Yarbo is not right for your property. But even if I only mapped areas that had no obstacles, and turned the vision off completely, it would still flawlessly handle over half of my mowing job. As it is, it taps and then maneuvers around, or mows around NGZ, for literally 50 objects in the property. This brings Yarbo’s coverage to about 80% of my mowing job, possibly more. It saves me over 4 hours each mow, which I calculate to be roughly 100 hours in the first year alone!

So while I don’t know your property, and I wish software updates/fixes were developed faster, I think most properties could benefit in some way from Yarbo, especially with NGZs or even a “Danger Yarbo Crossing” sign.
