HaLow Antenna broke

Hey all! I received a replacement HaLow antenna as mine broke at the connection (brass fitting where the antenna attaches to the mount), but no instructions on how to replace it. I have taken the 2 screws off of the mount itself, but the wire is so tight that I can’t move it. Do I need to tear down the whole case of yarbo to replace it?

Any ideas/suggestions welcome!

Thanks,
Tony

Mine is one the way… please post how bad it is to replace.

I looked for a video link but I couldn’t find it on discord. Support should be able to provide you with the replacement video link. From what I recall, you have to remove the screws in the battery compartment and use the provided ratchet to remove the bolts on the yellow top of the core. This will let you remove the top shell and get to the cable.

Awesome - Benji on Yarbo Users and Community just asked this same question, and I shared the video link there. Thanks, @bryan.wheeler!

I’ve done this repair.

It is REALLY EASY the second time.

Pretty easy the first time.

  1. Pop the battery.
  2. Remove the mower module.
  3. Remove those two huge hex screws
  4. In the corners of the battery compartment, there are two smaller hex screws in each corner. Pull them, too.

That’s the hard part. You can use a screw gun to remove them, just ensure you are using the correct bits.

The rest of this is literally about 30 seconds.

  1. Standing in front of the core, lift the shell up, and rotate it toward you (nose down) with the rear cameras facing up. That’ll expose what you are after, and give you the most slack to work with.
  2. Trace the broken jumper to the little board it and the other antenna jumpers screw into. Hard to miss, it’s all the gold hex nuts. Unscrew it, obviously.
  3. The jumper will run through a little clippy thing, and mine had some white goo holding it in place. Free it.
  4. The jumper was also zip-tied to the other cable bundle. Cut that. Carefully.
  5. Fish the bad one out, fish the new one in.
  6. Zip tie it in about the same place
  7. Do whatever with that clippy thing if you care
  8. Idiot-check all of the other gold hexnuts to make sure none of the other antenna jumpers are loose.

On the nose of the shell that is facing down, there are some clicky-type connectors that connect everything on the shell to the guts in the main chassis. Ensure you didn’t unplug any by mistake. All are labeled and easy to put back if you did. If something is wonky after you reassemble, it’ll be one of those.

Ensure (double and triple check) that you do not pinch any wires when you rotate the shell back onto the core. Pay close attention to the rear corners of the battery compartment. There’s a lip that, on mine, one of the wires liked to lay on top of, and I had to tuck underneath.

Be certain to start all of the screws by hand. You have one chance to not strip or crossthread.

And that’s pretty much it. Hardly enough time for @Ken to slam a Pabst.

And a hat-tip of Thank You to the fellows at Yarbo who made this fantastic video for me. It was extremely helpful.

Thanks all! It was really easy to replace.

However, it keeps breaking for me… I have some pine trees around my boarder and I am going to see if I can source a few of the cables. I have been able to get the male brass fitting out of the antenna itself with a little effort, so the antenna is still good. I just need find the right cable.

Alan Stevens is a trusted dealer and he stocks some supplies to include the cables. You can validate he is on Yarbo’s website. I would recommend though that you might want to consider putting a NGZ or something around that area and using dead ends or something to clean it up. Or possibly trim the trees some above the antenna? https://bourbonyarbo.com

I received my replacement parts.
Top is the old part, bottom is the new parts received.

There were no lock washers on the old one, unless they broke off with the antenna.

Should my spare parts have spare parts?

@Yarbo-Forum

Thoughts?

I’d like to confirm, is this all you received in one package? The HaLow antenna should come with a black block and be installed as shown in the picture.

Sorry for the confusion @Yarbo-Forum, I did indeed receive the black block you mentioned. I simply didn’t have a question about it. My question was should I use one of the lock washers? Your picture above doesn’t appear to show a lock washer which is the direction I went as the antenna seemed to seat better without one. If I need to add a lock washer I can. Just let me know.

The antenna did arrive in a separate package that the USPS held a couple times to verify postage. I assumed the USPS messed up. SHOCKER!!! NOT!!!l

USPS is really bad at this point.

Long story short, Yarbo is again a complete unit.

HaLow signal shows in the diagnostics as -67.

Thank you @Yarbo-Forum for your assistance and guidance. Please pass along my gratitude to the Yarbo team for getting me back in operation. I do appreciate it.

-67… how far away from the DC?

Park that core right next to it and get some readings.

This is where you tell me to move my DC out of the attic right Steve?

Nah, lol.

Just for a short term test, remove that hex nut (and rubber thingy) and reattach the whip to see if you need a better seating. The whip will do the job of that nut, anyway.

If there’s no difference, put the nut back.

Rubber thingy???

I’ll give that a go after this mowing task is complete.

Task is out in the “North Lawn” and HaLow currently shows -99.

What’s a good range on the HaLow?

80 or better. Worse than that it starts bouncing to other methods.

I can’t speak for total range, but a couple hundred yards should be expected.

Thanks for the info.

I’m currently cutting the North Lawn and there is a grassy knoll between Yarbo and the house. I see its on 4G with a tie fighter…

If you are impatient, call it home for recharge, remove those pieces, then resume it.
