Mower Pro Auto clean build up grass

With the Mower Pro and the solid mulching blades, there is a possibility that when cutting wetter or autumn grass, a lot of mulch may stick to the underside of the Mower Pro.

This can build up, even with ceramic or other non-stick coatings. As a result, when the blades are extended for a period of time, a significant amount of build-up could occur. This may prevent the blades from retracting fully, or could cause them to compress the mulch.

My suggestion is that, as the motors are brushless and likely have a Yarbo firmware controller, the blades could spin slowly in the opposite direction while retracting. The lift section of the blade, the part bent towards the deck to create grass lift, could then help scrape away the build-up.

It may be possible to achieve this without reversing the motor direction, but having the blades running while retracting would certainly help clear any build-up.

Thanks for sharing your idea and the detailed explanation. I can understand how this could help reduce mulch build-up and improve blade retraction in wetter conditions.

If more users also show interest in this kind of improvement, I’ll help pass the feedback and use cases along to our team for consideration.

This would be awesome, anything to reduce the maintenance as I am away from home for long periods and use my mower to keep on top of things whilst I am away.

I’ve seen some users in several different manufacturers forums and also one in the Yarbo groups rig up an undercarriage washer. Basically drive the core through/over it and water shoots up underneath when activated through some sensor or pressure plate. Running the blade motors simultaneously would also help I think. Like the little spinning arm in a dishwasher almost.

I had been thinking about adding a proximity activated undercarriage sprayer to the sidewalk Yarbo drives over when it’s docking.

Seems like a good way to keep things cleaner underneath.

Underwashing is something on my Roadmap and back of my thoughts. The SDK actually gives an indication as to when someone is docked and can use that to initiate a wash. The problem I’m trying to solve is to wash away the mulch from the cleaning area. But I don’t want to hijack my own thread.

I’m just starting to play with the SDK. Finally got around to adding it to HA last night.

I suspect we’ll all come up with some cool addons and nifty ideas pretty soon.

At our local ATV park, the wash bay floors are a steel grating over a ledge. Mud and such simply falls through the grating, and it works great.

For our application, something similar with a (porous) catch-tray / tarp underneath might work nicely. Path the core + M1 over it, under-carriage washer activates, and the catch-tray catches. The grate simply needs to be elevated enough to get over the tray.

When the tray gets full, the core can even drag it to your favorite compost pile!
