Mowing with intermittent GPS

If the location of the core is inaccurate it may think it’s still outside a no-go zone even if it isn’t, I would be wary of using this as a “for sure” fix.

Hopefully they come out with per area PPVS settings soon, the “Drawing Max Travel Distance” is when you’re driving so you can set that much higher I’ve found, I have mine at ~100. I have my boundary set to ~70ft and in area set to max. I have a couple heavily wooded areas that still require checking a few times when it pauses waiting for GPS, and resuming to get the area completed. Those areas are pretty far from “danger zones” though.

Also I found if you set your speed to the slowest it allows it to spend more time in “good GPS” locations. It might also keep it’s own position a little more accurate too

If the HaLow isn’t working and the connection status only says 3 but never 2 then check your internet connection. I had a similar problem and I was going crazy only to find my ethernet cable was in but not snapped in so the connection was none to little. After fixing that connection, it has worked great and I have a very large and very difficult property.

its looking for help

Unfortunately, I see the yarbo saying “waiting for GPS signal to recover” in the middle of my backyard. This is while my GPS signal on the phone app shows there is still a GPS signal, albiet more of a moderate to low GPS signal rathar than strong. It isn’t like I am operating in a large space, as my total acreage is 1.5 and this signal issue is only 50 feet from the DC…

Hello. Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your Yarbo’s GPS issues though.

There are a few different reasons why this might happen. We can try to tackle them in order.

First, is this a new issue, or has your Yarbo exhibited problems with GPS sensitivity for a period of time?

Second, do you have PPVS enabled in the Yarbo app? (Settings, Yarbo Lab, PPVS)

Also, is your core configured to use your home WiFi? Recommend removing it from your home WiFi if so. Some screenshots of your diagnostics (RTK, status, data center, and HaLow sections) would be helpful.

Good morning.

I have the PPVS turned on and all the settings maxed out to the farthest distance. Here are my screenshots of the diagnostic. I took this when the Yarbo was in the middle of the side yard, about 25 feet from the DC. I also had turned off the wifi to the Yarbo mower/core at this point. Should I also disconnect the wifi from the DC?

Wait. What do you mean by this?
The current generation DC can only be connected to Ethernet. Or do you mean you’re using a wireless extender that is connected via Ethernet to your DC?

So it appears to be a poor quality issue that is causing the GPS to drop out. Is this area obstructed by anything nearby? Trees, houses, etc? Is this new behavior or is this a new area being mowed?

I am only connect via ethernet with the DC. There is a page on the Yarbo app that has the Rover Wifi and the DC Wifi. I don’t think I have changed any settings on this page.

This is not new behavior. Unfortunately the issue I have had since I purchased the rover last summer has been trying to solve the problem. It is almost a full-time job trying to go behind the yarbo with a mower as well as problem-solve… and that is challenging as I also work 50 hours a week outside of the rover/yarbo issues.

There are trees on the edges of the property but the DC is on that side of the house about 25 feet from the rover and the rover is in the middle of the side yard or backyard when the “waiting for GPS signal to recover” occurs. As I said, the mowing area is maybe 3/4 of an acre. Are there other options during GPS connectivity issues? I have trimmed the trees in the backyard, but the trees are 30 feet tall, so there is only so much one can do for that issue. I would imagine many others have yards like mine and not a wide-open field…

DC proximity doesn’t solve GPS problems. Both the core and the DC need to see the same shared satellites but not each other. Since you have a borderline quality issue, I think the new Pro antennas may help. Get two for the rover at least. Can you also tap the yellow details under RTK in diagnostics and post your scatterplot?

I am not currently at home, so I will have to send you a screenshot of the RTK details when I get back home and can connect to the DC.

Thank you. I have 3 of the RTK Pro antennas purchased and waiting for the release.

I’m really sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with GPS issues for so long.

Environments with many trees can be particularly challenging for GPS reception, and in situations like yours, the Pro RTK antennas may help improve signal stability and positioning performance.

Once you have the Pro antennas installed, please keep us updated on the results. We’d be very interested to hear whether they make a noticeable difference in your environment.

Thank you for the concern. The antennas are ordered but I am not sure when they will be released, as they were “coming soon” when I ordered. I will let you know the outcome once the antennas are installed. I am attaching the RTK diagnostics scatterplot that was requested. Have a great start to the week.

Your DC looks great. Focus antennas on the core. Upgrade the DC if you want.
