No location w/o PPVS but PPVS is not reliable

I’m not sure how difficult your DC is to access, but another trick is to swap them onto the DC one at time and look at cnr numbers for each. You’ll see the value drop for a noisy one.

And another incident using PPVS where a boundary is completely ignored. This time it ended up on a granite strip on our path.

I just had to disable PPVS (even with only 10-15’ travel distance).

I have the same issue here in the Netherlands. Yarbo Goes out of boundary or out of area with PPVS on, even with no GPS travel distances of 0 meter.

In my opinion Yarbo should not ever go out of it,s area or boundaries. So how can I set Yarbo to stay within area’s? The PPVS feature makes sense however not outside boundaries.

You are correct it shouldn’t go outside of its boundaries, but it can happen if it loses GPS and PPVS allows it to travel a certain distance without GPS. PPVS is a best guess and many factors can make that guess become inaccurate. Usually time and distance traveled. But slope and track slippage also cause it to lose accuracy quickly. If it’s doing it with PPVS disabled, then it points to GPS reflections that are giving it inaccurate positioning. I would consider upgrading the antennas to the Pro ones. That can help in those noisy and reflected areas. I’d also make sure your DC CNR values are above 40. If your DC has any obstructions nearby, that could also be a factor.

Hi, I have set the no GPS signals traveling to zero meters and Yarbo stops for a few moments in case it loses GPS giving me confidence the machine could be reliable. The blades power down and when the GPS signal comes back Yarbo powers the blades and continuous.

(it could help to put a time threshold here for 20 - 30 sec for Yarbo’s blades powering down and up, that will save time as GPS is mostly only away for a moment) I will order a set of pro antennas to see if that improves the RTK.

It is truly scarry to see Yarbo going outside boundaries while it actually shows on the map!. We have in many places, water outside the area-borders and the core only being 3-4 ft away from that, I share some pictures to show how it looks on the screen and in practice. Yarbo completly outside the area, the wrong way! trimmer inside instead of outside!

Could “boundary obstacle avoidance” in combination with PPVS played a role here forcing Yarbo to manoeuvring outside the area / boundary ? Although I do not see why Yarbo continues to travel, if GPS fails Yarbo stops on our terrain, It must have been an action with GPS on and PPVS and/or boundary obstacle avoidance forcing Yarbo outside it’s area, which is strange with GPS signal on. When the incident happened on our terrain Yarbo detected collisions in open area??The terrain is not completely flat so soft touch is on. As the area is a bit narrow (20 ft) with trees in the middle I have set Yarbo to mow multiple rounds to stay out manoeuvring near the water, which also drastically shortenend mowing time. Yarbo mowed the area several times already with no issues. I am very curious what happened with all these advanced settings in place making Yarbo do what is it shouldn ’t

can “stop if outside area” be fixed in a software update?

Is there somehow a setting to stop Yarbo when it passes a boundary or area border or is that an upcoming update? It stopped also once with slipping track (caused by a piece of wood, just stop so I can see what’s going on…)

There is only grass near that border, Yarbo sees numbres collision encounters which are not there…

In general, I would be very cautious with any robot mower that close to a body of water. Not just Yarbo, but any RTK based mower.

You can easily search online and find pics and videos of different robots that have strayed into pools, streams, ponds, etc.

Basically, all it takes is one GPS reflection or error and the robot might stray a few inches out of the desired area and into the water.

If it was me, I’d give maybe a foot or two perimeter between the Yarbo’s work area and the water edge. And maybe over time, you can reduce that buffer zone as you gain more confidence.

I agree, I would give any hazards a wide safety buffer of many feet. Put some no go zones at least along those hazards so if it knows it’s near or in the no go zone it stops and also should hopefully take some extra precautions. But at least with a templated NGZ, you can resize and adjust that as you gain more confidence in the unit respecting the boundaries.

I agree in general to stay away from the water. The pictures you see is Yarbo 3 feet over it’s area boundry and also in the wrong direction.

I do not understand why it is going outside it’s area as on the pictures

Sorry, I misinterpreted the pics.

In the winter, I occasionally had a situation where Yarbo Snowblower would accidentally stray from the driveway to the adjacent grass because snow drifts along the edge of the driveway would cause Yarbo’s body to pivot into the grass. Yarbo would continue driving into the grass for a short period of time (trying to steer out) getting farther into the grass before stopping and saying it was out of the assigned area.

Maybe something like that is happening with you. Perhaps the downward slope was enough that Yarbo started pivoting (slipping?) down towards the water and kept going, trying to steer back into the assigned area before finally giving up.

If you haven’t, I’d open a ticket and note the times/dates that happened so they can figure out what happened, both with the wrong direction and why it went out of bounds to begin with.

This helps , I regonise the situation you mention. I had other occasions on that same side that day stating “out of track” meaning the machine slipped and did not follow the intended path; (4 inches, 10 cm!) Yarbo stopped as I would expect. The first time nothing seemed wrong so i restarted the plan after visual inspection. It jammed again after seconds, further inspection showed two pieces of thick tree bark,one under the track one under the pro mower. The pictures above show Yarbo still stopping on land as I keep at least 3 ft safety margine on top of the boundary safety offset 2-4 inches

The thing is, Yarbo stops at an unusual event, most of the time…..

And suddenly it crosses the area border/boundary without any warning.

I love the hardware of machine! The tracks, robust! Etc, but the software…. There are things which need work.

You are exactly correct, my hope is when the M comes out there is brand new software for both machines.

I have opened a ticket. A GPS machine cannot go without GPS for standard settings. There should be a specific warning note!

I have travelled a lot an know that space in the US is a different deffintion then the EU. Secondly if all Yarbo users drawn a border/boundary then that is a hard stop.

Otherwise we do not need borders. The PPVS, ultrasonisch, radar, camera, ai, it is all intended to improve performance within boundaries, not to give Yarbo an excuse to go out of boundaries and go without gps, in my opinion.

I have PPVS set very conservatively. In my mind, better safe than sorry.

What I’ve observed over time is that when the robot stops due to no GPS, just moving it a foot or two usually resolves it. So by setting PPVS so low, I’m allowing it to move that couple of feet using its other sensors to hopefully regain GPS.

This method has worked well for me. I can’t recall the last time I saw my Yarbo stopped with no GPS.

I agree, better safe then sorry, for drawing I have 30 ft (10 meters) Boundary 0 meters and within area 0 meters. My Yarbo stops without GPS as the water is only 3-4 ft away. (Excluding the buffer) Gps most of time comes back within a (half) minute and Yarbo continues, I do not mind that.

With these PPVS settings in place I m truly puzzled why the out of boundary happens. Also saying the previous mentioned out of track stop is Logic.

The software/algoritm does not seem consistant all the time.

If I was you, I’d reduce the drawing setting. Cause if you think about it, you want your drawing (creating the perimeter) to be as accurate as possible. The accuracy of that boundary creation defines how Yarbo is going to behave when actually mowing.

As for Yarbo crossing into NGZ, that’s a fairly recent development. I think it was the early spring firmware that started that issue. They released a fix to hopefully resolve the issue, but it isn’t 100% resolved yet.

I don’t like to use PPVS so I turn everything to 1 foot.
