omg the plow is a dream to attach compared to reinstalling snow studs… really made me wish for some kind of slip on “chains” like cars have or something that clipped to the treads. Such a pain to install when the treads are on since one side is basically blocked by the unit and the head is what wears down with use making it sometimes a pain to attach a driver to.
Why did you have them out? And if it is that bad I think I would have taken a few min and removed the tracks.
If there is that much need to install and uninstall the studs, maybe two sets of winter tracks (one studded pair and one unstudded pair) would be easier than repeatedly mounting/unmounting the individual studs?
We had a new driveway poured and I was concerned about scratching. I figured that traction wouldn’t be an issue and added some weight to the unit. But as the snow packed yarbo had trouble on the slope so I wanted to put them back on
I’ve told myself that if I ever need to put them back on, it will only be a few. I can’t see me ever needing them though. My last two snows worked great with the summer treads. I’ve contemplated two sets of tracks. One with studs and one without. I agree with @Doc_Overflow on that, if I needed the option on the routine, that’s the route I would go.
I’ve been contemplating putting just a few back in, with all of them in a line I’m not sure the trench they dig is worth it, having only 2-3 alternating sets in contact at a time seem like they might work better.
@bryan.wheeler Summer treads!? How is that possible!? ![]()
I’ve heard a few people say it works fine and well, I was sick and was kind of a surprise storm, so I Yolo’d it. Got the potential for 20 inches this weekend (which will shut my town down for weeks if it sticks around). I am probably still going to run the summer treads just to see.
I love it. I just figured it would be too slick.
We shall see. I am scraping to zero, so my hope is it would have more traction on the pavement than someone who’s not clearing to zero.
I wouldn’t have thought the summer treads would be aggressive enough to provide adequate traction. Very interesting. Looking forward to hearing the results of your testing!
