Moving Trailers

Hey all. New to site. Jack (of all trades) has a question. Has anyone been moving around heavy trailer. Say 3000 pounds. I am guessing you can’t put 300 pounds of tongue weight on the back even if you raised a ball high enough for the trailer to be level. The core would just Cat Walk and probably tear out the running gear. So next option is raise the ball and put a roller under the leg. Problem here is now you can adjust the tongue weight but it’s still only on the back. My guess here is Cat Walk or track slip.

Anyway. These are my guesses. I have a few design ideas but thought I would see if anyone here has previous experience and if the support guys can tell me the total weight that can be added to a centre point braced to the frame without risking the frame, motors or running gear. As of yet I have not done any experimenting so all ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jack

Tongue weight is your biggest issue. Very easy to snap the tow hitch. Don’t overload it!

Technically Yarbo can pull a lot of dead weight in a straight line if you have appropriate traction, but it won’t be agile when it comes to turning.

Button line - I wouldn’t suggest trying to pull 3000#. Marketing materials aside, it’s really not meant for that.

Now if they would only start shipping BBMs as they “promised” in November , I want to get designing some rear ballast:grin:

Thanks folks. Have a bit of a design for a 4 wheeled spring opposed centre ball mount idea. Starting off with the correct spring rates I could then have adjustability to add 5 or 60 pounds to the unit and shed the rest to the towing surface. Only want the option to do it if I need to move the trailer in the shop and don’t have space or something is blocking bringing the truck in. Just another experiment.

Im thinking they are waiting for the edge trimmer to be ready to ship before they ship the hitch. In my part of the world we won’t be needing that for a bit.

There was a fellow who fabricated up a ball hitch mount that was located above the center of the core, so it couldn’t jackknife and wreck itself. It also put the tongue weight on the grab handles.

Those posts seem to be gone, though.

I think he put it on YouTube. Wonder if it’s still there?

You ever see that VW Beetle with the hitch on top. That’s a must for us.

Oh I remember that VW. I thought it was so amusing how perfectly it fit under the 5th wheel hitch.

So cool!

Hi there, Jack — welcome to the forum!

We don’t recommend using Yarbo to move trailers of that weight.

For more details on how the tow hitch is intended to be used, you may refer to the articles we’ve provided: Understanding Yarbo Tow Hitch & Towing Capacity | Yarbo Wiki. If you have any other questions or ideas you’d like to explore, feel free to share them — we’re happy to help however we can.
