Towing Hitch Failure-Need update on what can be and how it can be towed.

I recently attempted to tow a trailer using the Yarbo core and the provided hitch attachment. Sadly, the moment I lowered the trailer onto the hitch, the 4 small bolts sheered and the hitch attachment failed.

Two suggestions:

  1. The hitch attachment must come with a warning stating maximum allowed tongue weight. I evidently exceeded this.
  2. The online statement of towing “11,000” lbs must be updated to clarify how the pulling must be accomplished to achieve that stated weight. I had hooked up a 5000lb trailer, and instantly failed the hitch. I believe this is due to the tongue weight.

I’d also appreciate a replacement hitch attachment.

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you’ve encountered. While we’re not sure where the statement of 11,000 lbs towing ability comes from, could you provide us with any details or let us know where you saw it? This way, we can check if it came from an official channel and see if there’s anything we can do to prevent the spread of inaccurate information.

From our official channels, the maximum towing capacity of the Yarbo Core is actually 3,500 lbs, so we’re sorry that the 5,000 lbs trailer exceeded its capability. For daily use, it’s recommended to tow items weighing no more than 500 lbs. Additionally, for added protection of the tow hitch, we recommend using a ball hitch, which provides more flexibility when towing items over 100 lbs.

If our official channel has provided you with inaccurate information, we’ll definitely send you a free replacement for the tow hitch. In other cases, we also sell tow hitches on our official website, where you can easily find a replacement:Yarbo | Accessories to Enhance Your Outdoor Robot

As for your suggestion about the tongue weight, we’ll pass your feedback to relevant department for consideration.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and we appreciate your understanding.

It’s 3,500 lbs of towing force. It’s meant to pull dethatchers, spreaders, aerators, and other lawn implements. While they advertise it can pull a car, it’s on a flat and level surface and not for an extended period of time. No where have I seen 11K lbs advertised. As for the tongue weight, you need to use a cart that is 4 wheel and minimal tongue weight. If you have a 2 wheel cart, I would consider adding or leaving a trailer jack on it to take the weight off the tongue. I would not put more than 50lbs personally and even that is probably too much. The new BBM will support up to 200lbs tongue weight with an improved hitch. So even with that I would not recommend using 5000lb your trailer.

I saw that same marketing info at 11,000lb tow capability too. I asked AI to find it, but it cant. I saw it around end of January. Probably an affiliate marketer for Yarbo with made a mistake. I thought it was a video, but may have been a post.

I consider myself pretty plugged into Yarbo information and I have never seen that. Definitely would like to know where so that can be corrected if it’s still out there. That will definitely cause some issues. Way over spec.

@Yarbo-Forum In the Chicago livestream I think Wednesday last week (not sure the day, but it was within the first few minutes of the livestream), it was announced that the engineers have done more testing with the rover and doubled the regular / daily towing recommendation to 1000 lbs.

Are there replacement aluminum blocks available? I pushed my luck a little too much with a 2 wheeled trailer and the stock hitch:sweat_smile::sweat_smile::sweat_smile:, ordering the BBM now.

Mine broke like this. 4 wheel cart, but Yarbo decided to break dance with it during waypoint navigation.

Looks like some pretty cheap pot metal.

I haven’t found a way to order them.

Open a ticket to get the info I guess.

@rcguymike @ken.w.gregory open a ticket and they will take care of you. The BBM doesn’t ship until end of August around the same time as the trimmer. Some general recommendations is to not use a two wheeled cart, but make sure it’s 4 wheeled, use a ball mount, keep loads under 500lbs and don’t go down hills with it as 500lbs will push 140 pretty easily. If you can help it, backing is not good either. Definitely install the bolt into the hitch to hold it and keep it tight. If it loosens, it can let the hitch move and flex and can lead to breakage.

The hitch is made with cast aluminum and it is designed to break there vs having the core itself get damaged.

Mine broke just like that as well. I was extremely surprised given all the marketing about the ability to tow heavy loads.

Thankfully there will soon be a happy ending to this story. Yarbo is in the process of sending me a new one.

Sorry to hear about the trouble! We recommend submitting a support ticket so our team can assist you further.

Can you please add the block that breaks to the store? I don’t mind purchasing an expendable item if I do something stupid. Might save some tickets and support time.

As well as other consumables and wear items like the front rake of the mower.

The front rake on the mower wears? Guess I haven’t had one long enough to tell.

Eventually it will. Especially hitting rocks and concrete, stones, pavers, etc.

It seems pretty robust. Do you need to remove some FOD?

Thanks for the suggestion! We’ll definitely take that into consideration. If there’s anything else you think should be made available in the store, please feel free to share it here—we always appreciate feedback that can help improve the experience for everyone.

Is the collision detection bumper user replaceable? I ask because the mower that I am returning is stuck in collision mode. (Says there is a collision but there is clearly nothing around the unit)

If it is user replaceable and the failure rate suggests it might be good in the store I say add it as well.

Guess that answers that…

It should be in the store in my opinion.
