Mowing with intermittent GPS

They fixed it!

@yarbo-forum Yes, So far so good. He’s out actually cutting some grass. :crossed_fingers:
Now for the good part. Now they want me to take off a day of work to set up an appt. 04:30am EST. I told them about work. They still want to meet. I asked for a later time than 04:30 EST so as to not miss work, or have to take off to video chat with them. Radio silence. This was a in the email reply back.

That’s good though. They have later times but most of those you have to schedule it out a bit. Were there no other times available in the scheduler like a week out? The good time slots fill up quick.

It only had one option a couple days out for 04:30. I did ask in the email. Hoping they come back with another option on days, and times. That would work. Just glad he’s out acting normally again. Thought I had completely lost him after the tree ate his antennas, then the cables replacement. Then the update. Just glad he’s doing things right again. Let’s keep up the great work. Hoping the new testing antennas come in so we can see how they do now that we’re up and going again.

One of the downsides of off-shoring the work.

Sure — in simple terms, the issue was caused by the machine frequently switching between public and local networks, which disrupted GPS stability.

Our R&D team has deployed a new software component on this unit to prevent that network switching, which should stop the GPS from dropping out frequently.

@marco @Yarbo-Forum Wow this is great news your R&D team has deployed a new software component on this unit to prevent that network switching, which should stop the GPS from dropping out frequently. Wow, this should really be a big help to others as well. Shows your R&D team is really stepping up to the jobs at hand. Give everyone a hand for all the great work they’re doing!!! :+1:  :raising_hands:

Today’s strangeness was a message that Yarbo was 4.9ft out of bounds.

I was afraid I was going to have to rescue Yarbo from the creek.

I put on my shoes and walked to the back of the property only to find Yarbo sitting exactly where he should be according to his work plan.

That was a relief.

Looking at my automated screenshots this was kind of the proper response. Red GPS. Then Orange gps. then Red gps. The green GPS. But Yarbo is shown outside the perimeter. Orange GPS, still out of bounds, orange gps, still out of bounds, Green GPS and Yarbo is shown back in bounds. Seems like it could have resumed the work plan but there may be some safety concerns with that though.

Good HaLow in all those screenshots if you believe the icon.

This was with the updated firmware and the flexible RTK mounts.

Loss of GPS is pretty much normal over the grassy knoll where this occurred.

Second anomaly today was Yarbo switched modules in the middle of a mow.

The work plan was suspended. I opened the app and was greeted with this:

I hit the check button and was greeted with this:

Neat…..

I hit the resume button and Yarbo continued on his way. Anyone had this happen before?

I’ve seen old messages appear when i open the app on a different device even though I’ve dismissed the on the first device.

It likely may have rebooted and was still coming up but what @cobradunn said about cached information is also true. I often see this switching back and forth between my two cores. I will see the data from the one I just looked at until the app downloads the fresh data from the connected rover. Then things update correctly.

So far, I’ve been lucky with my motherboard transplant. No hiccups on GPS, but for people that do, do they make a RTK extension rod that can attach and extend the Rover RTK higher? Say 12” ?

They don’t make one specifically and unfortunately they don’t sell them on the accessories store. You could reach out to support and see if they will sell you a couple. I think they will. @Yarbo-Forum is the DC poles something that could be added to the accessories store?

I think @The_Quan is looking for longer RTK mounts for the rover. Not the DC. If I read that right.

How do you think that would help (genuinely curious? Do you think it would improve signal?). Also, aren’t you worried that the antennas will hit obstacles and break?

Oh good eye. Totally missed that. Multitasking again. I don’t think that would be a good idea but no they don’t make something like that. Many users have 3d printed replacement high mounts. There are stencils published that could be modified.

Odd. Just got this exact error (1.5m) 5 minutes ago. What I find odd is that it is the exact same number as you (1.5m) in area it never had any problem before. And Yarbo was still within boundaries… A new “functionality”?

That is the maximum allowable distance before throwing the error. I think the logic for how this triggers is not optimal. I’ve mentioned before here on the forum that it shouldn’t throw the error until it’s had RTK status of 4 for at least 15-20 seconds. I think it drifts due to poor GPS and when it’s gaining status 4 but not fully calibrated, it’s throwing this error early.

It kind of made sense in my head. With GPS coming and going.
