I will be waiting for someone to try it and report back here about their impressions. How well does it adhere to the Core? How durable is this cover? etc.
They don’t say it, but do we think it will help reduce battery temperatures when charing in direct sunlight?
If so, I wonder how much improvement. I know this hard to measure, but if someone who regularly hits encounters the hot battery issue tries this and provides an anecdotal impression of impact is enough for me.
This might help with heating from the sun. Unfortunately, it’s not going to help with charging heat. The issue remains that there’s no way to dissipate heat from the battery compartment. The real fix is a redesigned battery cover with active cooling.
I just ordered one. I’ll post when I get it or get shipping information. Agreed that it will only help act as shade for the unit, not help cool the unit.
If it’s made entirely of aluminum, it might worsen the problem instead of solving it. When in contact with the body, it would overheat it more because it transfers heat to whatever it’s touching. If it’s a two-component design with the right material, then it acts as an insulator. Aluminum alone is not a thermal insulator.
Yarbo is sending me a new core, but it looks like it is shipping from China, so I have no idea when it will get here, so this is not needed for that core, as it will be colder by the time it gets here. And for my other core, we are in a severe drought, so no lawn cutting going on till it at least rains, and by that time it will be colder, so no real world testing from me. I will have to just wait till next season to try it.
I do hope it works as the slowed down charging does suck when you have multiple acres to cut, and it is too damp to cut at night around this area.
I’m waiting for the core replacement. They were supposed to ship it to me on August 10th, but since they didn’t, they’ve rescheduled it for the 20th, which is tomorrow. We’ll see, but I don’t have much faith in it.
For me this year, the hottest temps and the drought have been concurrent, so not much mowing to be done. As a result, the slower charging speed hasn’t really impacted things too much.
I never caught it completely stop charging. Worst I saw was the charging rate cut in half.
Same here, there was some very hot days before the drought, but a lot later on through it. I have a cover over mine while charging except the sun angle late afternoon catches the battery area, I guess I could block it for summer but, the sun is less intense by that time of day.
I never saw the charging stop either, but man half speed is painfully slow when you know dusk is coming and you can’t cut again till late morning.
