I’ve been watching my Yarbo tear up my lawn. It seems that when an obstacle is detected the unit abruptly stops and reverses direction,also abruptly. When navigating around trees or in shady areas where the ground is likely to be damp and root systems for grass are weaker, this rips up the grass and even leaves divits.
Can this maneuver be made less abrupt? Maybe make the level of aggressiveness user selectable
Out of curiosity, what speed are you running at? I use slowest and find it to be more responsive with better reaction times. Anything above that it and it will certainly abruptly stop once it detects something.
My grass is tough, and is a country lawn, not city grass, so my grass can handle this and my 70hp tractor driving on it, but I can see if you have very nice grass this can be a concern. Also to the life of the core it can’t be good doing harsh movements, it could just coast to the stop at some point instead of putting the brakes on like it does.
Mine is ramming trees, posts and stones in full speed it is set on. I do run it on medium speed. Haven’t tried anything quicker for a long time. Collisions in medium speed look serious enough
It does not, as B-Mod mentioned, it just does electrical braking. When it does this, especially with high speeds, the rear of the core actually lifts up a little and a lot of the weight shifts onto the front wheels.
If yours is not slowing down, then you may have disabled vision (M1) or ultrasonics (MPro) and then it will not execute the “Gentle” in “Gentle Contact” because there is nothing to alert it to slow down before bumping. And yes, I’m sure you disabled these for other reasons, so it’s a choice of what is the best choice to achieve the end goal most effectively.

Mine still slows down to a crawl, until it’s a couple inches away, then floors it for the actual impact, lol. I notice it mostly on my wellhead and stack vent. It’s as if their distance calc is off by two inches.
Thrill of the hunt? In all seriousness, I don’t recall seeing this slow down then speed up. I’ll have to pay attention next time to see if it does. I’m wondering if it isn’t intentional, if it’s getting close enough to the object that the camera becomes “blocked” and then it overrides the view and speeds up as a result.
