Steps to follow if moving the data center

What are the steps I need to follow if I decide to move my data center by about seven feet?

Also - Is there a way to save my existing map and reuse it after moving the data center?

Make sure you core is charging on its dock and has good GPS signal and quality. Move your DC. Correct for map drift. Check the map for accuracy by driving the core around and making sure it’s accurate on the map and in real life. If accurate, you are done. If not, you will need to remap.

This is the correct procedure, but I’m not sure the chances of success. My understanding was the chances of map drift correction working were low, but maybe they’ve improved? Do you know if this tends to work?

It works pretty well from my experience.

Thanks for your question.

At the moment, if the data center has been moved, it may be necessary to redraw the map. The map drift correction feature is typically designed for situations where the data center has not been relocated, or has only shifted slightly (for example due to wind), causing minor map drift.

In cases where the data center has been moved to a new position, this feature may not be effective.

That’s what I remembered. I think the data center should be installed as if it can never be moved, and map drift correction (as it currently is) only used as a last resort. Though it would be nice if Yarbo could have a “move data center” function in the future, as I’m sure the need to move it comes up often enough.

I think this is the answer. Hopefully the process is updated so when a customer purchases a Yarbo, they get an email stating how important the DC install is and to make it a one-and-done install if at all possible. Also if it needs to be moved, how you’ll need to remap everything that has already been done. I think I said it before that it would be nice to have the ability to check the install location before the Yarbo/DC arrives. Not sure if phones have the ability to determine if a location is good or not if the DC won’t be high up with a clear view of the sky.

While the docking station location is easier to move, people don’t always have power available at the ideal locations or maybe GPS isn’t great where the desired parking spot will be. Having the ability to check GPS before you have the gear in-hand would be pretty nice if possible.

My guidance to new Yarbo owners is this:

Identifying the location for your DC and installing it there is kind of the most critical installation task. It sets the foundation for everything else downstream.

Once installed, don’t plan on moving it unless you are ok with remapping your entire yard. So take your time and get it right the first time.

I’ve heard differing guidance from Yarbo about this. I’m of the mind that I’d try it and see. Key is to test it afterwards and make sure it’s accurate. I think if it moves too far it won’t let you correct anyways. The DC will start flashing red and at that point you have to reinstall. I think 7FT is borderline if I recall correctly. Mine is ground mounted and I’ve moved it several feet without issue.

Thanks to everyone who replied. However…..

Having read through all the posts (with some contradictory information among them), I’m still left wondering: What is the correct procedure to follow if I have to move the data center?

Safe answer, remap. Otherwise, take a chance and if it will let you, correct for map drift. Just be sure and test it for accuracy afterwards. If it isn’t, you will need to remap.

Thanks.

So, worst case if map drift won’t help….

  1. Move data center
  2. remap

As simple as that? Example: I shouldn’t need to use the app’s “reinstall data center” function? (Just want to be clear.)

  1. Move DC
  2. Correct for Map Drift (if it won’t let you correct it, you proceed to step A)
  3. Test for accuracy
  4. If inaccurate, go to step A

A) Reinstall Data Center in the app
B) Maps will be deleted, remap and setup work plans, schedules, area settings, etc.

  1. When reinstalling the data center, during the “Initialization” step, should the robot be on the docking station?
  2. If I must remap, I must also create again a path from the docking station to a work area in the new map?
  3. When reinstalling the data center because I had to move it, do I also need to reinstall the docking station?
  1. Yes, this would be best because of 2 and 3 but it is not required. If correcting for map drift, it must be on the dock and charging with green GPS.
  2. Yes, it would be like setting it up as new
  3. Yes, again its like setting it up as it was new
