Yarbo at a cabin

Hi, I’m Tom, and I’m kind of obsessed with Yarbo.

…but, I’m still in the research phase and I’m trying to get it all figured out prior to purchasing.

While I’m currently figuring out an install for my house, I’m curious if I can get away with a system for my cabin.

We have loads of tall trees with an open area above the cabin but 120 degrees of open sky for the data center is not possible in this situation. Realistically, does this rule out Yarbo for that property by default? I realize I could probably drive it around manually and I think I’m okish with that idea but being able to have it automatically maintain certain areas would be amazing.

(Off topic but I would also would LOVE to see cross platform Yarbo integration for those of us with smart homes. Thread & Matter support for cross platform capability vs a very narrow subset of environments like Google Home or Alexa.)

It doesn’t rule you out but it may make it stop a lot more waiting for GPS. They are doing a lot to mitigate this and the good news is, it’s just software updates. Public NTRIP will also make it more of a reality for a lot of folks like yourself. That’s basically using someone else’s reference point (like a data center) that does have a clear view of the sky with very expensive and calibrated GPS antennas.

Thanks so much for the reply. I did hear Yarbo was working on an update that may help with times that GPS drops out but I guess I’m not sure if how MUCH coverage we have would automatically exclude that property.

I just placed my order for the core, mower pro, snow blower, plow, trimmer, and some covers so, I guess I’ll see how it all goes. This purchase is for our house but I’ll probably take it to the cabin to see how it handles the terrain and go from there.

That’s a good option then. If it is within a few miles, you can actually use the DC from your other home to run auto plans at the cabin using WiFi or Cellular internet on the core. Even if it’s further away than that, you can still watch the diagnostics on the core and see what GPS is like.

Very cool, I didn’t realize you could see diagnostics on the core. Thanks for that info!

The cabin is 45min away so no chance of communication with the home DC. Cellular service is a no-go as I need to have a 2x2 MIMO antenna on the roof pointed in a very specific area to get any signal that I can feed into my router for internet access. I never designed WiFi for outside but I could if I need to do that to make the Yarbo a viable option.

This should be a fun experiment once I get the house setup dialed in.

I’m wondering if a 5G wifi hotspot device would work for communications? Especially since cellular coverage is extremely limited.

Thank you for choosing Yarbo! We’ll be releasing an update in the near future to improve Yarbo’s performance in areas with GPS challenges. Once it’s available, you’ll be able to test whether it works well for your cabin setup. We’d also love for you to share your experience here once you receive your Yarbo!
