Got Yarbo, 3 DC issues

I just got my Yarbo yesterday and everything works except 3 issues with the DC.

  1. DC doesnt connect to WiFi. During setup, the radar screen spins, but it stays there.
  2. My firmware is 1.0.25 but when I click the download button to upgrade it say I’mon the most recent version.
  3. Halow doesn’t seem to be connecting as my Core says its not getting GPS and so won’t create a map.

Thoughts?

I assume you took the diagnostics screenshots after the scatterplot? Would explain the latency if so. If not, there could be something going on. The high HDOP is an issue. Where is the docking station located? Is the core out in the wide open in these screenshots? DC CNR looks really good though.

Hello. Congrats on the new Yarbo!

Quick tip…

The current version of the DC doesn’t support connection via WiFi. Ideally the app shouldn’t be displaying that option yet. They added the option for an upcoming version of the DC that isn’t released yet.

So for yours, you need to hardwire your DC to Ethernet in order for it to work. Hope that makes sense.

Bryan,

About to try the items we’ve been messaging over, then I’ll post in this thread with results. I’ll also retake diagnostic screenshot AND THEN the scatterplot as I don’t remember which came first in the image above.

For reference, my DC is mounted 35’ on top of my barn so has full 360 degree visibility. There are also no trees nearby to get in the way. Its basically an ideal view of the sky.

Stay tuned, will post on this mornings findings soon

So ran through those items in the order you specified. My core never moved from “Offline” (the highest its ever been is yellow, never seen green on GPS) after sitting in a wide open spot for 5 minutes.

Here are new diagnostics along with the Core showing as offline for GPS and the open area it sat in.

Not sure everything @bryan.wheeler suggested, but those numbers look pretty decent. HaLow is little weak but should be functional. Are you saying the GPS icon is staying red?

Yup GPS of the Core is staying red. Every once in a while it’ll blip Yellow but I have NEVER seen the Core with green GPS

Fyi,

Bryan suggested unplugging DV and Core for 5 minutes. Then start up DC, then Core, then reinitialize the DC.

Seemed pretty standard procedure, but thats what I followed that got me to “Offline” readings fkr GPS on tbe core

Yep. The reboots would’ve been my next question. This is an odd one.

There’s definitely something going on with your DC initialization. Drive the core out into the yard a bit further. Your HaLow signal is really low too. Remove the rubber washer under the HaLow antenna on the core. Make sure all the antennas are tight on both units. Try the reinstall data center procedure again. For reference, HaLow should not be near -80 being that close to the DC. That’s when it switches to WiFi or cellular. You can toggle cellular on, but I’d remove the core from your home WiFi.

This is my guess. The antenna’s center pin sometimes doesn’t make good contact with the female side.

To be clear you mean this little washer? Also the 2 antennas on the Core look identical, does one have to be left and one have to be right? Just curious if I could have got that wrong?

I did notice a small portion of the plastic housing on the DC Halow bumps against the brass female end. It seems extremely minor but should I shave that back to gaurantee a fit?

Hard to tell but that looks like it.

Is the DC HaLow antenna not making good contact because of this bump?

On your first question, the GPS antenna on the core have different functions, but left and right are identical. The HaLow antenna is the tall one.

Thanks, missed that. DC and Core RTK antennas are all the same. No orientation. All completely interchangeable.

It still appears to be making good contact. There about 1 thread left showing at the bottom of the fitting.

The BT antenna has about .5 of a thread. I can’t imagine we’d tolerance an antenna with that little wiggle room.

As long as it’s tight on there, it should be fine. I seem to recall mine didn’t fully recess into the DC when installed.

As a reference mine’s sitting on the dock 100’ away from the DC behind wood building and I’m seeing -57.

Mine is about 5 ft away and I see anywhere from -5 to -13.

Mine is directly over the dock (about 12 feet up) and I never see better than -45. But it never goes up much more than that acres away. Interesting yours is that strong..
